Grade Level : 8
Quarter :4
Time Frame : 90 minutes

Performance
Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the organs of the Code: S8LT-IVa-13
digestive system involving ingestion, absorption, assimilation and
excretion.
Learning
Competency/ies: Explain ingestion, absorption, assimilation and excretion.

1. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students, with 80% accuracy, shall be able to:
Knowledge Identify the structures of the digestive system;
Skills Present an analysis of the process of digestion in human digestive system;
Attitudes Understand the functions of each organs in the digestive system; and

ACTIVITY: “DIGESTIVE, ASSEMBLE!”
Divide the class into 2. Let the students assemble the pictures
from the envelope and paste it on the paper. Students will
present their output to the class and discuss the process of
digestion.
Students will deepen their knowledge based from the activity
4.3 Analysis by presenting their outputs to the class.

_10_ minutes The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. What is digestive system?

2. How food passes through the digestive system?
3. Why is digestion important?

generalization/ _20_ minutes Digestion is the process by which the food is broken into
concept/ smaller components that the body can absorb to nourish the
conclusion/ cell.
abstraction should Mouth – The mouth is where the digestion begins.
students arrive at? Esophagus – a muscular tube through where the food passes
from the pharynx to the stomach.
Stomach – stores the food and mixes the food with gastric
juices.
Small intestine – is considered as the organ of complete
digestion and absorption, it is considered as the longest organ
of the digestive system.
Accessory organs of digestion:
•Liver- an organ that produces bile that helps digests fats and
some vitamins.
• Gallbladder – an organ that stores bile between meals.
• Pancreas – makes a digestive juice that has enzymes that
break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
Large intestine – stores the fecal materials, absorbs the
vitamins and reabsorbs the water from the undigested residue.
Rectum – holds the stool until evacuation happens
Anus- is where the excretion of feces happens.

4.5 PRACTICE / Activity: “BREAD IN THE BAG”

APPLICATION
__15____minutes Students will be grouped into 2 and perform a simple experiment. Let the students
observe and record the experiment and write the observations in the observation
sheet.

Procedures:
1. Take ½ piece of bread per group
2. Obtain the zip lock bag
3. Tear the ½ sliced of bread into smaller pieces, and place it into the bag. What
does this represent?
4. Pour smaller amount of water into the bag. What does this represent?
5. Close the bag and squish the bread with your finger until all pieces are really
small. What does this represent?
6. Drain the liquid contents by creating a small gap which prevent by escaping.
What does this represent?
7. Put all the contents of the bag into the garbage. What does this represent?
