THE TONY ELUMELU FOUNDATION

About me
My name is Abidoye Tope Samson, I had my Higher National Diploma (HND) in
Computer Science. My entrepreneurship skill stated during my school days and
passionate for it. I was brought up and leaves in Oyo State Ibadan to be precise. I am
currently producing Amala vita. I have been trying to expand my business skill in other
to enable poor, average and rich people easily have affordable meal in their various
homes. Amala (also known as Oka) has been the major cultural food for the people of
Western part of Nigeria. In my research, I discovered that green banana flour is of
course has more nutrient than amala made from yam and cassava flour. The green
banana (not plantain) amala has low calorie, low Glycemic index and fiber. It is
particularly ideal for those with blood sugar condition such as diabetes and those
looking to lose weight.

What makes me different

People use yam and cassava flour to prepare amala , which are usually contain high
calories and high in carbohydrate. In my community, many people have not heard about
green banana amala. However, instead of using yam and cassava flour, I considered
using green banana slice them, and dry them before blending into a dry powder and
package it into a 1kg sachet at a price of 450 naira and name it “Amala Vital refined”
that can feed atleast the family of four (5) members at one meal.

Problem solved
High fiber: The fiber in Banana also help to lower the cholesterol in the body, which in
turn keeps heart functioning at its best.

Lower blood sugar level: Banana help to solve the problem by reducing the blood sugar
level. Cassava and yam contains too much starch and high in carbohydrate. Banana has
less starch and low in carbohydrate, which is recommended for diabetes patient.

My personal Achievement
I have started producing amala vita refined and selling it at the market but am short of
resources to make a better package and to expand the arms of my business and also to
acquire NAFDAC registration number is challenging in financial aspect. Obviously, I have
been using my IT skills to promote my product and to do market awareness by designing
my personal website with dedicated database to keep the records of my stocks,
resources and staff. In addition, I makes use of social medial such as, Twitter, WhatsApp,
Facebook and Instagram.
My Revenue model
My Amala vita refined business is very nutritious and serves at marriages, homes,
birthdays, naming ceremonies etc. I am currently producing it in a well packaged of 1kg
at a price between 450 – 500 naira.

Marketing Strategy
We aim at reaching our customers through personal contact by initiating supply to
Birthday party, naming ceremony, restaurants, supermarkets, provision stores for
wholesale and retails, use of mass media (Tv/Radio adverts) social media.

My next Milestone
After receiving the first seed capital, my business will grow to have her personal
business premises (land and building infrastructure) and logistic vehicles for marketing
and promotion. Also planned to extend the product not only to African countries but
also to the entire world.
