LAB EXPERIMENT # 13
Objective:

To determine the Drag coefficient on an Airplane at various Angle of Attack.

Introduction:

Wind tunnels are among the most important design tools used in engineering to study the effects of
air moving over or around solid objects such as airplane wings, cars, trains, skyscrapers, bridges, etc.
This Apparatus is suitable to understand the aerodynamic properties of solid objects using this wind
tunnel, which combines real-time monitoring of all parameters with a software-based Data
Acquisition. The experiment system allows the students to explore the airflow patterns around
various objects, the orientations of which can be controlled interactively.

This experimental setup provides the students with real-time measurements for pressure, velocity,
and drag force in conjunction with Real-time Data Monitoring.

Apparatus:

 WIND TUNNEL Model SS-WT-292-C

Accessories Required:

 Symmetrical Model
 Laptop

Procedure:

 Open the test section door carefully (by opening the lock on the right side).
 Install the test model on the YAW assembly.
 Adjust the position of the model.
 Close the door.
 Plug-In and switch on the main unit.
 Adjust the speed control knob to a minimum level.
 Switch on the fan.
 Adjust the fan speed at the desired level of the test.
 Attach laptop to data acquisition cable and run the software.
 Adjust the model position by yaw control buttons (e.g, CW & CCW).
 Also note down the angle of attack on display behind the Model.
 Read all the sensor values on digital HMI and note them down.
 Change the speed of the fan.
 Note down all measured values and tabulate.
 Switch off the fan after the experiment is performed.
 Switch-Off main unit after the experiment is performed.
