Dear Editor,

I’m Yolanda Li, a 10th grader from RDFZ. With the recent closure of 2022 Beijing Olympics, it is exciting
to see the rising trend of participation in ice sports. Hence, as a proper answer for the mass’s passion, I pro-
pose the National Aquatics Center’s ice sports setup to be conserved, as it can act as multipurpose stadium
to provide convenience in different dimensions.

Beijing is experiencing a major lack in professional stadiums for curling or hockey. The shortage compelled
citizens to share their curling or hockey space with ice skaters which consequentially might lead to dangers
like accidental crashes caused by overcrowding. Thus, if we conserve the “ice cube”, during winter the citi-
zens would have a specialized and safe space to practice their sports.

I have noticed there are concerns about the difficulty of ice cube’s conservation and worries for its replace-
ment of water cube. Yet, it has been reported by credible sources that the ice cube section only take a few
weeks to set. As the old idiom says, “All things are hardest in the beginning.” I believe the maintenance of
the center would be easy with the techniques already discovered during its initial preparation. Furthermore, t
here is no need to worry for ice cube occupying the ‘territory“ of original profession. The Aquatics Center
will act as a multipurpose medium which holds ice sports events during winter and original usage in the re-
maining seasons. This seasonal adjustment sera es citizen’s changing choices of sports affected by weather
and guaranteed that the center would not be vacant all year long.

Therefore in my perspective, saving the function of “ice cube” fulfills the entertaining needs of the citizens.
And we should conserve it in order to aid the need of fun enjoyed in every way.

Thank you for consideration,

Yolanda Li
