STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

ACTIVITY:

1. The registrar of the Senior High School wanted to know the percentage of
students enrolled in the TVL track for the school year 2021–2022. A total
of 535 learners were enrolled, according to the enrollment data. There
are 135 learners enrolled in Home Economics and 28 learners enrolled in
Information and Communication Technology out of this total. What do
the numbers say about the students’ course references?

SOLUTION:
a. 𝑝̂= 135/535= 0.25 or 25%
 This equates to 25% of students enrolled in Home Economics.
b. 𝑝̂= 28/535= 0.05 or 5%
 This equates to 5% of students majoring in Information and
Communication Technology.

𝑝̂= 135+28/535= 163/535= 0.30 or 30%

 This indicates that 30% of students registered did not engage in
TVL.
𝑞̂ = 1 − 𝑝̂
𝑞̂= 1 – 0.30
𝑞̂= 0.7 or 70%
 In all, 70% of students are enrolled in the TVL track, while 30%
are enrolled in another strand.
2. An option poll was conducted among current voters at a political rally to
see if they would vote for Eric Valdez. 3010 declared their support for
him. Will Eric Valdez win the election if there are 5000 voters present?

SOLUTION:

a. 𝑝̂= 3010/5000= 0.60 or 60%

𝑞̂= 1- 𝑝̂
𝑞̂= 1- 0.60
𝑞̂= 0.4 or 40%
 This implies Eric Valdez has a 60% probability of winning and a
40% chance of losing at a political event.

3. A random sample of learners were asked if they Like (1), Do not like (2),
or Could Not Decide whether they liked or disliked a new type of food
served by the school cafeteria.

SOLUTION:
a. Number who answered like = 27
Total number of respondents= 70
𝑝̂= 27/70 0.39 or 39%
 As a result, 39 percent of the samples prefer the new style of
food supplied by the school cafeteria.
b. Number who answered do not like= 17
Total number of respondents= 70
𝑝̂= 17/70= 0.24 or 24%
 As a result, 24 percent of the samples disliked the new sort of
food supplied by the school cafeteria.
c. Number who could not decide= 26
Total number of respondents= 70
𝑝̂= 26/70= 0.37 or 37%
 As a result, 37% of the samples were unable to determine the
new type of food given by the school cafeteria.
