Suspended load hazard
Suspended loads can be dropped accidentally.
Only personnel with adequate lifting training are permitted to
WARNING! perform lifting operations.
Use lifting equipment certified according to local regulations.
Stand clear of suspended loads.
Use ropes or poles to steady and maneuver loads. Never use
hands or feet.
Make sure that the capacity of the lifting equipment is
adequate and that it is in good working order.
Make sure that the joints are secure and have the same lifting
capacity as the rest of the tackle, if the lifting tackle has to be
made up by joining separate components.
Always engage the safety clips on the lifting hooks to prevent
the tackle from slipping off.
Make sure that the route and the destination are free from
obstacles before moving a suspended load. It must be
possible to lower the load to the ground quickly and safely in
case of an emergency.
When depositing loads, make sure that the load is stable
before removing the lifting equipment.

1.10. Feed and jams

EXPLOSION HAZARD
Blasting is dangerous.
Never remove blocking boulders from the crusher by using
DANGER! explosives.
Sandvik SRP AB will not accept any liability for injuries to
personnel or damage to the equipment if explosives are
used.

CRUSHING HAZARD
You can suddenly be pulled forcefully downwards together
with the material in the crushing chamber.
DANGER! Never stand inside the crusher when a blockage is removed.

EJECTION HAZARD
Stones and fragments can be ejected at high speed from the
crushing chamber.
WARNING! When the crushing chamber is empty, avoid feeding solitary
round rocks into it.
Never use wedges, iron-bar levers etc. to clear jams in the
feed opening.

NOTE! Always follow local regulations when attempting to clear a jam.

In some cases it is possible to increase the CSS (close side setting)
temporarily to clear a jam.

1.11. Heating in an oil bath

FIRE HAZARD
Oil is flammable and can catch fire.
Use an oil with a flash point at least 50 °C(90 °F) above the
DANGER! desired heating temperature.
Be careful when heating the oil. Make sure that the heat
source cannot flare up. Also make sure that there is no oil on
the outside of the container.

BURN HAZARD
Hot oil can cause severe burns.
Be careful when you work with heated oil.
DANGER!

BURN HAZARD
The oil container’s surfaces are hot and can cause severe
burns.
WARNING! Keep a safe distance to the container.

SLIPPING HAZARD
Oil spill can result in a slippery surface.
Protect the area around the oil container with rugs and
WARNING! remove any oil spill outside the rugs to reduce the risk of
slipping.

NOTE! Handle the oil according to the supplier’s Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) and according to local regulations.

1.12. Protection against emission hazards

Sandvik’s crushers are used for processing of minerals or other
materials that can give rise to health risks for human beings and
animals. It is the user's responsibility to follow relevant rules and
regulations intended to prevent health risks, for example specific
regulations that cover dust emission, asbestos, quartzite, radon etc.

1.12.1. Noise
NOISE HAZARD
Continuous exposure to noise above 80 dB(A) can cause
hearing impairment.
Wear approved ear protection.

WARNING!

1.12.2. Radioactivity
RADIOACTIVITY HAZARD
Breathing radioactive gas can cause disease.
Always wear approved respirator.
WARNING!

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally in many types of

bedrock and ore. Radon can cause lung cancer. Mineral type,
ventilation and water are all factors that influence the contents of radon
gases.
Sandvik SRP AB declines all responsibility for any health hazards
caused by the release of radioactive substances when processing
minerals in the crusher.

1.12.3. Dust
Health hazard
Breathing dust will cause death or severe injury.
Always wear an approved respirator.

DANGER!

Always work with a respirator approved by the respirator manufacturer

for the job you are doing. It is essential that the respirator that you use
protects you from the tiny dust particles which cause silicosis and which
may cause other serious lung diseases. You should not use the
equipment until you are sure your respirator is working properly. This
means the respirator must be checked to make sure that it is clean, that
its filter has been changed, and to otherwise make sure the respirator
will protect you in the way it is meant to.
Make sure the dust suppression system in your equipment is working
properly. If the dust suppression system is not working properly, stop
working immediately.
Always make sure dust has been cleaned off your boots and clothes
when you leave your shift.
The smallest particles of dust are the most harmful. They may be so
fine that you can not see them.
Remember, you must protect yourself from the danger of breathing or
inhaling dust.
Sandvik SRP AB strongly recommends using additional equipment for
dust control. Examples are dust extraction (vacuum) and dust
suppression by water spray or foam. Such equipment is not included in
the crusher’s standard specification.
Sandvik SRP AB declines all responsibility for any health hazards
caused by dust, generated when processing minerals in the crusher.

1.13. User obligations

The plant management's obligations include, but are not limited to,
assigning responsibility for:

• The production equipment and the work area around the equipment.
• All personnel in the surroundings of the equipment.
• Compliance with national and local safety regulations.
• Checking that all safety devices are fully operational.
• Use of personal protective equipment.
• Training.
