Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questions.
Forming study groups can be a very effective strategy for learning, especially during exam
preparation. This is because group members can share ideas and learn from each other. However, if
not done well, studying with friends can be more distracting than helpful, so you will need to know
how to make study groups effective.
It's recommended to keep study groups between 4 to 6 people. People often socialise too
much and cannot work on as much material or knowledge if groups are too small. In bigger groups,
however, some members may not contribute to study sessions or make efforts as much as others and
organization can be a problem. With 4 to 6 people in your group, you'll minimize socialisation and
maximize individual contribution.
The most effective study is completed in study groups consisting of members with the
common goal of earning good grades. Students dedicated to succeeding in school usually complete
assigned reading, take extensive notes, and clear up confusion by asking questions and contributing
to the group. Depending on the subject matter, sometimes it's advantageous to select group
members with unique talents or knowledge.
One important thing to remember is to always be prepared. Group study can be very
ineffective if members come to sessions without knowing what they are doing. Before a session, each
member of the study group should review lecture notes, complete select readings from the textbook,
and identify specific subjects to study. Someone should be assigned to create a detailed schedule for
sessions and ensure that they are productive and stays on track. It is also helpful to schedule breaks to
avoid group members feeling drained from all the studying.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the correct answer to each of the questions.
Have you decided to take on a new habit but keep failing to maintain it? Do you give up when
things get tough? You may have low self-efficacy. But don’t be too worried: self-efficacy is something
that you can build with practice.
When you have high self-efficacy, you believe that you can do something. At the heart of self-
efficacy is the idea that you can control what you do. If there’s a storm on the day you were going to
go to the gym, for example, you don’t just give up on exercise for the week. You might rearrange your
schedule so you can go another day, or you might work out at home, or you might remind yourself
that a missed day will not destroy your routine or derail your long-term plan.
The first step to build self-efficacy is congratulating yourself for small wins. Past successes are
fuel for future success. This applies to tiny things like habits: if you managed to make it to the gym
once, it’s a lot easier to show up on day two. It also applies to bigger projects. If you did a beginner
running program and “graduated” by running a five-kilometre race, that’s huge. You learned that you
can follow a program. You learned that you can run farther than you ever thought you could. And you
can harness all of that positivity to push yourself when working on a new goal.
Inspiration does not only come from yourself. For some people, looking up to a world-class
athlete or simply a healthy and fit friend can inspire them in the gym. Also, just as you can cheer on a
friend, your friend can cheer you on as well. Additionally, make an effort to seek out instructors,
coaches, and mentors who make you feel unstoppable. If somebody you trust thinks that you can do
something, you’ll start to believe it too.
When you’re trying to stay on a path, it helps to know where that path leads. Just imagine:
what will it look like to hit your goal? How good and proud will you feel when you cross the finish
line? And if you feel ready for this, you can even visualise scenarios where you’re facing difficulties.
How will you feel if you get injured or if your gym suddenly closes? Your plan is surely big enough to
survive these obstacles, but it will help to think them through ahead of time and plan out how you will
handle them.
