CLASS-IX(2022-2023)
SUBJECT-SOCIAL SCIENCE
TOPIC: DISASTER MANAGEMENT

As a student of geography (Social Sciences) and as a conscious citizen of India, doing a


project on disaster management is going to give you a first - hand experience and
opportunity to get yourself familiarized not only with the meaning, factors and effects of
various disasters, but also to learn the essentials of disaster preparedness and different
ways to collect relevant information pertaining to disasters and its effective
dissemination.

Objectives: The main objectives of giving project work on Disaster Management to the
students are to:
a. create awareness in them about different disasters, their consequences and management.
b. prepare them in advance to face such situations.
c. ensure their participation in disaster mitigation plans.
d. enable them to create awareness and preparedness among the community.

Topics to complete your project:


1. A Biological Disaster: Novel Coronavirus (Roll No. 1-10)
Biological disasters are natural scenarios involving disease, disability or death on a
large scale among humans, animals and plants due to micro-organisms like bacteria,
or virus or toxins.A new virus sweeps the world, closing borders, shutting down arts
and sports, and killing thousands of people. This coronavirus pandemic, with the
disease named Covid-19, is simply a biological disaster.
2. NATURAL DISASTER: Earthquake (Roll No. 11-20) & Floods (Roll No. 21-30)
A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the Earth. A
natural disaster can cause loss of life or damage property and typically leaves some economic
damage in its wake, the severity of which depends on the affected population's resilience and
on the infrastructure available.

3. MAN-MADE DISASTERS : Road Accident (Roll No. 31 Onwards)


Man-made disaster admits that all disasters are caused by humans. Man-made
disaster involves an element of human intent, negligence, or error; or involving a
failure of a man-made system.

HOW TO PROCEED:

✓ Resources required for research: Computer and internet, books, newspapers,


journals etc.
✓ Material required - A-4 size pastel sheets, file cover and other stationery items
STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED:
➢ A day will be assigned to discuss your project in the class
➢ A Group of students will be assigned any one topic based on
Biological/Natural/Man-Made Disaster for their presentation.
➢ Students will give a presentation in front of the class followed by Q/A
session.
Assessment will be done on the following criteria -
➢ Content accuracy, originality and analysis - 2 mark
➢ Presentation and creativity - 2 mark
➢ Viva- voce - 1 marks

It is to be noted that –
- The projects prepared should be made from eco-friendly products without
incurring too much expenditure.
- The Project Report should be handwritten by the students themselves and
comprise of not more than 15 A4 size sheets.
