a. Is it possible for Michael and Danielle to have a child who has type O blood?

How do you know this? This is not possible, Michael and Danielle can not have a

child with an O blood type. The reason why is because both Michael and Danielle

pass on one of their two ABO alleles and if Michael passes down one of his A or

B alleles to his daughter while Danielle passes on her O allele, their child by

definition must have a blood type of A or B. Danielles blood cells have no A or B

markers and Michaels AB blood type is more prominent, so it dominates.

b. Was a switch made at the hospital? Explain your reasoning. There was no switch

made at the hospital. The reason why the first question was so important was

because we now know that there is no possible outcome for Danielle and Michael to

have a child with the blood type O. However, for Denise and Earnest, it is very

possible for their child to have an O blood type. While Denise has the blood type B

and Earnest having the blood type A, each one of them might have one i allele.

Denise could have the blood type B (I^B i) and Earnest may have the blood type A

makeup (I^A i). If both of them pass down their i allele to their child, then that child

would have the blood type O.

c. How could fraternal twins be as different in appearance as Michelle and Michael, Jr.,

including one having light skin and the other having dark skin? Due to the fact they

are labeled as fraternal, it means that both children come from different eggs cells;

this means that they mature/develop separately. Because they were birthed by the

same mother and have the same father as well as being fraternal, it is normal for

them to have completely different physical characteristics/attributes. They will have

different DNA and chromosome makeups which contribute to their differences. Each

will receive different traits and be unique from each other.
