Directions: Choose one important character from Iliad and make a
connection/comparison from a modern-day personality you know about; a
personality may be dead or alive and how are they similar to each other.
Troy was proven to be the most powerful city in all of Greece. This was
because the walls of Troy were thought to have stood for a long time. Troy also
always won because of the prince Hector, who was reputed to be a warrior.
Today, we observe several countries that are similar to Troy and are
prospering as a result of their power. The contrast between the myth and the
adaptation of the myth is demonstrated in Homer's Iliad. The difference was in the
way the gods were depicted in the text and how the gods interacted with the
mortals. However, there are certain parallels in how our lives are shaped by events
from the past. In terms of relationships, power, and politics, the Greek tale of Troy
applies to our daily lives in our society.
We see how the war or undertaking of the City of Troy began in the film.
The plan to conquer Troy began when the young Trojan prince Paris made the
mistake of entering a forbidden romance with Helen, the wife of Menelaus, King
of Sparta. The Trojans' and Agamemnon's alliance had been ruined because of
the forbidden romance of Troy and Helen. Many of these things occur in today's
culture. For example, most people in business today join partnerships in the hopes
of flourishing in their businesses but owing to the temptations of this world, most
people enter into those partnerships because of illicit relationships with the wrong
people, so violating that partnership. This is also demonstrated in the adaptation
of Troy, where Paris, Hector's younger brother, is always accompanying Helen,
upsetting Menelaus and destroying their connection with Sparta. There is a
similarity between the adaptation and the myth of Troy, in which everyone
focused on the betrayal of the two nations and the consequences that each of
them faced. Troy is depicted as a powerhouse in Homer's Iliad, battling another
powerhouse with one of the world's most powerful armies. After Troy and Sparta
had a falling out, there was a power struggle to see who had the will and the
strength to win the conflict. Just like China and the United States of America were
in a stalemate and intended to initiate a nuclear war with one another. The Greek
myth of Troy has an impact on our world and how people who were once friends
try to eliminate each other once their trust is broken. We can observe how power
affects the decisions made by those in control of us throughout the Greek tale of
Troy and the society we live in. In Homer's Iliad, we are taught how politics can
influence our civilization. Agamemnon's power to gather all the armies and
conquer nations is demonstrated in Homer's Iliad. He used political means to
compel people to conform to his rule or suffer his anger. This is similar to the initial
scene of Troy in the Troy adaptation film, where Achilles faced Boagrius. Boagrius
was defeated, and his army was forced to bow to Agamemnon and obey his
orders whenever he issued them.
The Greek mythology of Troy and its adaptations have had a significant
impact on the world and how it runs now. Because kidnapping another man's
woman was a cause for war and violating a partnership was just as much a cause
for war as anything, Troy's emphasis on relationships had a significant impact on
society and how people lived in their period. Furthermore, they concentrated on
how power was a method of doing things in their day, making this the way they
should live their life because a man without power was considered weak. Finally,
they concentrated on politics, which meant that every man had the power to do
anything as long as they had the power to advocate for their goals, or they had
to submit to the control of another man.
