Module #: 1 Topic: FACILITATING LEARNER –
CENTERED TEACHING

ACTIVITY 1: Nostalgia of Learning

Recall an unforgettable teacher from your Elementary or high school years and the lesson he/she discussed to your
class. Then, answer the following questions that follow.

- The most unforgettable teacher on my elementary days is teacher Madem, my most favorite lesson that she
discussed is about on how to spell correctly. I was still on first grade at that time and the way she taught is very
exquisite compare to other teachers because when she is teaching, she always gives us candy in every word that we
spelled correctly and that really works for us as a kid because at that time our goal is just to get the prize and that
motivates us to focus on how to spell each word correctly. Our whole class is having so much fun at that moment and
at the same time we are learning.

- What were his/her ways of teaching with which you learned so much? Explain how did that ‘learning’ from his/her
lesson take shape in your everyday life?

- Her ways of teaching was the way she always give us a prize on every right answer that we get from the
activity that she discussed. At that time, it shaped me in my everyday life thinking that if I work hard on
something, everything will take place along the way.

- Did your teacher adhere to learner – centered approach? If YES, how many from the 14 principles of learner –
centered teaching you think had manifested on that learning experience? Explain how evident each choice you have
on his/her style of teaching. If NO and with all due respect, how can you make that lesson, being a future teacher, be
taught to students nowadays while considering the significance of each of the domains of Learner – centered concept.

- Yes, first is the nature of the learning process, this approach had manifested because she based her
teaching on how she thinks we will learn as a kid. Second is goals of the learning process, this approach
had been manifested because as a kid learning that if we have a goal in everything that we work hard for,
everything will follow along the process. Lastly, effects of motivation on effort, this approach had been
manifested because back when i was in first grade, the way she taught really motivates to to make more
effort on everything that I do and I know if I work hard on something, I will end up loving the thing that I
do and at the same time learning in the process.
