Summer Holiday Homework

Session 2022-23
Class VII

Dear Students,

Summer holidays are about having fun, relaxing and learning. They are a well deserved opportunity to
rejuvenate and rewind by indulging in activities that are pleasurable at the same time educative. They
are also full of moments where we can strengthen our family bonds, share joys and sorrows and have
a good time together. Summer Vacations are synonymous with fun, frolic, getting up late in the
morning, playing for longer hours with friends, going for picnics, exploring new places and watching
fun filled shows on television. But dear children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacations
more interesting, meaningful and full of fun.

Few guidelines to make your summer break fruitful:

● “Knowledge is Power”. Therefore encourage yourself to cultivate the reading habit because it not
only enhances the knowledge acquired but also develops the vocabulary, language skills and
improves spellings.
● Be sensitive to the needs of the creatures around you. A bowl of fresh water and food for birds
and animals everyday would make a world of difference to them. Make it a daily habit.
● 'Healthy mind resides in a healthy body.’ So start your day early and set a routine even during
vacations. In addition you can spend some quality time playing, cycling, doing yoga to keep
yourself fit and healthy.
● Do your homework independently, seeking guidance and assistance from your friends and family
when you need it.
● Maintain a diary of your reflections on these. It will remind you of the small things that brought
you happiness and the learning that happened.
● Take good care of yourself. Be physically active. Eat well and drink plenty of fluids.
HAVE A RESTFUL AND HAPPY SUMMER VACATION!
Adopting Green Substitutes - Say NO to Single use plastics

Single-use plastics, as the name suggests, are those plastic products that have a one-time use before
they are thrown away. Often these kinds of plastic are not disposed of properly, therefore not recycled.
It is a well-known fact that Single-use plastics are a serious climate change hazard. Plastic does not
decompose, and as a result, it remains in the same landfills that they have been buried in for millennia
to come. At the same time, plastic cannot be burned as it releases toxic fumes and harmful gasses
during the process.

While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become addicted to single-use plastic products — with
severe environmental, social, economic and health consequences. Around the world, one million
plastic bottles are purchased every minute, while up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide
every year. In total, half of all plastic produced is designed for single-use purposes – used just once
and then thrown away.

So the best thing we can do to protect our planet is to try to keep as much
plastic as possible out of the day-to-day use in the first place. A good news
for you is, there are many small, yet impactful ways in which we can do
that.
Let us kids say no to plastics
To it together we’ll stick
It pollutes for sure
Air, water and soil
And mother earth is falling sick

Task 1: Making a Difference

The choices we make today will create the world of tomorrow. Let's do our part to make this Earth a
more sustainable place to live as each small step can make a big difference.
Write a pledge (in 50-60 words) by choosing any one single-use plastic item that you will try to avoid
using now and in future.
For example, taking a pledge to be`STRAW FREE”. Many people choose to ditch the single-use plastic
straw as their ‘one small change’ and invest in stainless steel straws for the home and reusable straws
for use on the go.
You can be creative by designing an image to support your pledge. An image of the same is attached
for your reference.

Task 3: Powerpoint Presentation/Video

We use SUPs rampantly every day without paying heed. Many countries across the globe have
put a ban on the use of SUPs considering their harms towards the environment. India has also decided
to impose a blanket ban on the use of SUPs like straws, plastic bags, glasses, stirrers, thermocol,
plastic cutlery, styrofoam plates etc from 1st July 2022. In a move to spread more awareness, the
government has also enforced the ban on SUPs in villages as well, thereby making inroads in rural
India and creating vigilance towards this alarming issue.
Keeping in mind the steps taken by the Government, gather and compile informa
tion on SUPs that we use in our day to day life and how we can minimize or totally stop their usage for
a healthy environment and a better tomorrow.
(Read this article for more information on the ban of SUPs in India:

this-will-help-environment-10402121.html)

Make a PowerPoint Presentation/Video on the Single Use Plastics (SUPs) based on the following points:
1. Introduction to Single Use Plastics (SUPs)
2. List of single use plastics items that we use in our daily life
3. How are plastics made? (use of petroleum in manufacturing to be laid more emphasis on)
4. Statistical data of use of plastics in day-to-day life (in brief)
5. Environmental impacts of SUPs
6. Recycling journey of plastics
7. Alternatives to SUPs (with photos)
8. Tips to reduce the use of SUPs
Upload your presentation/video on your Class teacher’s Google Classroom

Task 4: Poster Making

As a conscious citizen, create a Poster to spread awareness about how we can reduce/eliminate the
use of Single use plastics. Depict some of the alternatives that can be used in lieu of single use plastic
in our daily lives.
The posters may include facts, photos, comics or whatever you think will inspire people to think twice
and change their habits!
