RQ: specific vs general
what are the characteristics mostly affect
the sense of alienation
so we can choose 2 or more related
demographic factors to include in 1 RQ, you
mean?
concerning the assignment 2 section 2, I am
really confused about the differences
between analysis in findings section and
analysis in appendices section?
RQ: Remember the variables from the
survey
The survey has 2 sections: demo and
alienation scale
So your RQ needs to be based on these
Independent: school closure (not as simple
as that)
Dependent: alienation
This RQ will allow you to analyse all
demographics
the important thing is to have enough
evidence to show
based on the rubric
 for example if you have just 1 demo
in your RQ,
1. why would you ask 8 demo
questions if you only use 1?
2. you won't be able to show
enough evidence of your analysis
If you want to use specific
demographics, you also need to
explain why
eg Occupation could be considered
as the most important factor that
influenced the residents' sense of
alienation because...
You can have separate RQs
You can have a general one and a
subsidiary one that is more specific

In findings you refer to both appendices
and discuss the result
in app B you only show your
coding/content analysis
In your requirements, I saw " Only include
table(s) in text, NO appendices,
bibliography or SPSS output is to be
included", why don't we need to include
those items?
so we will exclude irrelevant data, such std
deviation, right?
I'm not sure how I should understand the
relationship between the school closure
and the demographics. As I understand, the
school closure itself is not the direct factor
that influence the sense of alienation; it is
the demographics. Due to the school
closure, some demographics become more
or less influential to the sense of alienation.
So should I understand that the
independent variable is the 8
demographics?
So should the general RQ mention the eight
demographics as independent variables,
not the school closure? Or should it include
both the demographics and the school
closure as the independent one, in which
the demographics are the direct factors,
and the school closure is the indirect?
this explanation is given in the section
"hypothesis and RQs", before the
hypothesis and RQs are stated, am I right?
When you can present your result in 1-2
sentences (reliability test, t test), you don't
need a table, so don't use one.
No need for appendices either
We use references, not bibliography
The same with SPSS output, there are
numbers that you don't need and don't
discuss, so you need to build your own
table that presents only relevant data.
SD is relevant
Remember that means do not provide
information about distribution so means
are always presented with range and SD

You can use school closure in your RQ then
explain how the data is analysed based on
the demographics
It can be the first paragraph in Data
Analysis
Remember that the first paragraph should
be introductory, in this case it introduces
how the section is structured, which
includes how the data was analysed
Ah, I see. So the RQ could be general, but
the analysis must be detailed enough to
prove all aspects related to, but not directly
mentioned, in the RQ.
To what extent do occupations affect
people’s sense of alienation?
I'm not sure how to give a clear answer?
Correct. But you have to explain that at the
beginning of the section
That kind of question reminds you to
explore more
If your question is Did occupation have an
impact on alienation? then you will just say
yes, it did.
WIth To what extent... you can discuss
more. The analysis can be the same, but
your discussion should have more depth
eg. why the farmers were affected
more/less/similar to government staff?
