Explain how Learning about insects and bugs is important because they are
these ideas extremely important to every ecosystem and they are all around us. This
address the topic can provide first hand experiences and knowledge they can
child’s interests, apply right now in their lives. Also it is hard concepts which are easier to
development comprehend. This topic will also provide the children with a sense of
and knowledge respect for another aspect of nature and give them and can introduce
them to other topics like plant, gardens, arachnids (which can also be
covered in this lesson plan), and Nature in general (though this would be
a god monthly theme that bugs would fall under). Bugs also offer
concepts of sorting as there are concrete similarities between the bug
and insects in each group. Learning bugs can also introduce the
concept of jobs and jobs they participate in themselves, like helping to
clean up and do chores they may have to help with at home, also the
importance of teamwork. It can also teach the concept that everyone
is different and contributes different things to society, though I would use
friendlier terms.

Topic (Based on observation): Bugs/Insects

Ideas to be emphasized (what are you going to teach children about the topic?):

1. All insects have six legs, three main body sections (head, thorax, and abdomen), and
a hard skeleton.
2. Insects live in many different places and types of habitats.
3. Insects have a lot of different purposes and jobs.
4. Insects have different stages of growth (i.e. larvae to caterpillar to butterfly)
5. There a lot of different types of bugs and insects
