Tugas chapter 9
1. Hal 251 soal nomor 5
2. Hal 259 soal nomor 11
3. Hal 263 soal nomor 17
Answer :
1. A sample of n = 49 coffe drinkers taken from a normal population with a standard devition
of σ = $ 5. Sample mean is Ẋ = $20.
a. Point entimate of the population
The sample mean of $20 is a point estimate of the unknown population mean is the best
estimate, given the data.
Ẋ z = 20 1.96 x 5
n 49
= 20 1.96 x 5
7
= 20 1.4
Interprelation. About 95% of these confidence intervals are expected to contain the
population mean µ i.e mean amount coffe drinkers spend on cigarettes.
2. Nomor 11
a. The population mean is unknown, but the best estimate of the population is the
sample mean, that is 20 eggs per month.
b. Since the sample size is small ( less than 30), we need t use yhe t-distribution. We make
the asseuption that the sample drawn is randon and is the number off eggs is normally
distributed.
c. The degrees of freedom for the t-test is 20-1 = 19. The value of t for 95% confidence is
2.093.
d.
e.
3. Out of n = 400 virwers, X = 250 indicated they would watch the new show.
a. Sample proportion is
P = X
n
= 250
400
= 0.625
It is estimate that 62.5% of the viewers would watch the new show.
b. 99 % confidence interval
For a 99% level of confidence, the value of z is obtained
by locating 0.99/2 = 0.4950 in the table given in appendix BI.
The value of z = 2.58
= 0.625 ± 0.072
c. Interpretion : the confidence intervals constructed from 99 of the sample would contain
the true population proportion.
