Second phase (approximately 10-15 seconds)

● The extended bootloader launches the download manager.
● BOOT-LED HSA = ON (yellow)
● HSA RUN-LED = flashes at 2 Hz (green)
● The download manager checks whether the global software version
is correct.
Applies to EBL versions < V5:
If the configuration found in the treatment center does not match the
configuration stored in the HSA, the corresponding component will
not be started and the software version for the entire system will be
shown in brackets in the user interface.
Applies to EBL versions ≥V5:
If the SW version of one or more components does not agree with
the configuration stored in the HSA, these components are
displayed on the user interface. A notice indicating that a SW
download is required also appears. If a START button is displayed,
the treatment center can be started WITHOUT the incompatible
components anyway.
The overall software version is displayed in brackets in the Setup
dialog of the UI and the functions of the unstarted components are of
course not available!
If the incompatible component concerned is the UI itself, the START
button will not be displayed and a SW update is urgently required in
order to enable a start of the treatment center.

5.2.5 Download phases in terms of software

Download phase 1
The HSA application is checked, if necessary downloaded, and
launched.

The extended bootloader:

1. can receive external data (e.g. from a PC).
2. waits until the user interface registers (timeout at approximately 70
seconds).
3. checks the HSA application version (checksum, latest version).
4. requests the HSA application from the PC if necessary, and
programs it into the flash.
(BOOT LED flashes at 1Hz / 750ms ON / 250ms OFF)
Should the download have failed, the BOOT LED will flash at 1Hz /
250 ms ON / 750 ms OFF.
Restart the update in this case.
5. cuts the connection to the PC and launches the download manager
of the HSA application.

5.3 CAN BUS Sinius Service Manual

Download phase 2
The download manager starts the download process, updates the node
software via DUMC if necessary, and launches the application.

The download manager:

1. re-establishes the connection to the PC.
2. polls the application version (hardware/software compatibility) of all
connected nodes.
3. determines the need for an update based on the data received.
4. starts the download to the nodes one after the other.
The BOOT LED flashes at approx. 2 Hz during the download to the
nodes.
5. checks the checksums when the download is complete and, once a
valid configuration is confirmed, issues the start command to the
nodes.

5.3 CAN BUS

5.3.1 General
The CAN runs all controllers of the treatment center, all software
updates, and all service support cases.
On the S-COM, the PC software functions are performed for the user
interface and the user interface software is downloaded via FTP.
After the treatment center is switched on, all components and software
are queried and displayed in the setup dialog.

3. Tap the "Info" key.

Ä The menu for selecting components appears.

4. Select the components for reading the version information one after
the other.
Ä The corresponding information is displayed (in the following
example the information is from the dentist element)

If a fitted component is missing, check the respective board and the

CAN connection to the user interface (HAP1/HAP2 board).
The error LED of any node that loses its CAN connection to the central
error log on the HSA board flashes cyclically 2x. Check the CAN
connection in this case.

5.3.2 Measurements on the CAN BUS

In each CAN network there are 2x 120-ohm resistors that, measured in
parallel on the CAN line, result in 60 ohms. If you measure 120 ohms on
the CAN line with an ohmmeter (when the dental treatment center is
switched off), there is a disruption in the line. In the case of a disruption,
measure the connections between the connectors.
The CAN bus should always be checked for missing components.

5.4 S-COM
On the S-COM, the PC software functions are performed for the user
interface and the user interface software is downloaded via FTP.
If the S-COM connection has been established, the S-COM LED lights
up on the HSA and HAP1 / HAP2 boards. If this LED is flashing, the
connection is being established or a malfunction has occurred. The line
connection is, however, present. If the LED goes out, no data
connection is present. In this case, it must be assumed that there is a
disruption in the line.
Unlike the CAN BUS, there is no defined terminating resistor with this
bus.

5.6 Patient chair

5.6.1 Installation mode
ü To screw down the chair in position during installation, it must be
possible to raise it without the dentist element and assistant
element.
ü On the HSA board, the jumper for the missing safety switch of the
assistant element must be plugged into connector X13. A jumper
plug with a CAN terminating resistor also must be plugged into X1.
ü The chair is in installation mode if the HSA board does not detect a
NAJm board when booting.
1. Disconnect plug X1 on the WE so that the power supply's voltage is
released immediately after switching on.
2. After approx. 3 minutes, the "Mode" LED lights up on the NSA
board. Chair movement is enabled.
3. Press the "INST LIFT" key.
Ä The chair moves upward.
4. Screw the fastening screws into the chair.
5. Connect the dentist element and the assistant element. The two
jumper plugs are then no longer required.
6. Plug connector X1 back onto the NWE board. The power supply is
switched back on via the control element.
7. Perform a reboot.
Ä The chair can be moved again normally.
If the NAJ board is detected once, patient chair movements can only be
executed subject to release of the HAP2 or HAP1 board.
Communication between the HSA and HAP2 or HAP1 boards is
monitored during the patient chair movement. If the communication is
aborted, the patient chair travel will also be aborted or not started at all.

5.6.2 Referencing the drives

During the referencing run, the movement range of each drive is
traversed in order to identify the end positions and, if necessary, the
position of the light barriers.
The result of the referencing is saved on the respective control boards.

NSK Head support

HSA Chair drives

During the startup process, each referencing status is queried and

displayed in the Setup dialog box as the overall result.
Should a referencing be missing, this is output as a service code.
A reference run is absolutely essential following a replacement of:
● the HSA, NSK boards
● the chair motors and headrest

NOTE
Not maneuverable with external voltage
The motor then receives voltage and the position encoder does not.
The position stored in the encoder then no longer agrees with the
actual motor position. This cannot even be corrected via a reference
run with the Sinius (sliding track device).

This application offers the following services:
● Service management
(readout and storage of service information)
● Data management (transfer of user and device data)
● Firmware installation
For more information about this program, please refer to the DUMC

This program is available in the service area of the Sirona website.

8.6 PC connection, networking

8.6.1 Control via SIUCOM plus / SIVISION connect
Control of PC programs via the treatment center
SIUCOM plus enables you to control PC applications through the
Sinius / Sinius CS / Sinius TS Sirona treatment center. The PC
functions can be operated via the user interface of the treatment center
(touch screen) or the system foot control.

Ethernet connection is required

This is achieved through communication of the treatment center with the
PC via the Ethernet interface and the practice network. The function
codes generated by specific operations in the treatment center are
assigned to the desired PC functions in the SIUCOM program. Under
certain circumstances it is therefore possible to start, terminate and
control PC applications.

9.2 Adjusting the spring force of the flex arm on the

dentist element
9.2.1 Preparation
IMPORTANT
Practice-oriented adjustment of the spring force
Due to the wide variety of options for loading the dentist element
head, the springs have a very large adjustment range. Adjust the
spring force so that the fitted dentist element (according to customer
configuration) neither rises nor falls when the brake is deactivated.
Be sure to make allowances for potential changes in additional loads
when setting the spring force. Example: Only attach a NaCl cylinder
to the dentist element head if necessary. When you do this, you must
adjust the spring force so that the support arm does not fall or rise,
regardless of whether or not a NaCl cylinder is attached.

It is only once the dentist element has been fully equipped and the
desired configuration has been assembled that the spring force of the
dentist element flex arm can be set. This equipment includes:
● Instruments, including hoses
● Camera (optional)
● NaCl pump (optional)
● Tray (optional)
The support arm brake must be free of pressure so that the brake does
not impede its movement.
1. Switch the treatment center off.
2. Actuate the SPRAYVIT to deaerate the treatment center.

9.2.2 Setting the spring force on the CS assistant element

1. Loosen the 3 screws (A) of the cover and remove the cover.

same; in case of doubt, the lowering movement should require
greater force.
5. Remount the covers removed previously in reverse order.
