ON-THE-JOB TRAINING AT GOLDEN HARVEST

MALABON, METRO MANILA

Jersie C. Baylon

A narrative report, submitted to the Department of Information Technology, Cavite State

University-Cavite City Campus, Cavite City, Cavite. Bachelor of Science in Information
Technology. COSC199 Practicum. Adviser: Mrs. Teresita R. Tolentino, MIT.

INTRODUCTION

Knowledge is learned through experiences, with the help of certain people, skills

and knowledge can be enhanced and improved. By doing some practices and being

guided carefully by a skilled person, one can be successful with the path they chose

(Peter, 1990).

On-the-job training is a form of training that is designed for a student to be

mentally and physically prepared in the actual working situation. This teaches the

students to improve their skills, knowledge, and competencies that are needed to be

better employees in the near future. By means of this, students can able to adapt to new

things and will able to understand the definition of working. Intern program is not just

about gaining knowledge but showing and teaching every OJT trainee that trust and

teamwork are essential, and of course, to respect each and everyone is one of the few

important things one should remember. The training is not all about the skills harbored

but this is also about how to know and how to deal with different kinds of people and

how one will interact with the co-workers and how to surpass different problems that may

occur.
2

On-the-job training gave the trainee unforgettable memories and experiences. As

an Information technology student, this is a significant opportunity to explore, learn, and

expand the trainee’s knowledge. This particular OJT will oblige them to be professional

and mature enough to handle different tasks that the supervisor has given them. The

Golden Harvest Loan Facilitation is a good company that handles the trainees well. This

company has a very effective way of teaching because they taught them what they

should know and let them work on their own so that they can stand on their own feet. A

good company does not need to teach every single thing to the trainee but to let them

explore and learn on their own by observing the things in their surroundings.

Objectives of the On-the-Job Training

The general objective of OJT is to prepare and fully train the students in the

working industry and deal with other people or customers. This will help to explore the

relationship between the knowledge and skills acquired in college and the requirements

of the working environment. The specific objective is to apply the knowledge that the

students learned in the university to grade the working ability and actual performances of

the students in the workplace and give a good impression in their works to fully

recognize the student’s ability.

Significance of the On-the-Job Training

The Internship Program is a method by which students can apply what

they learned from their school. This program is providing opportunities for the students to

go through the actual methodologies of a specific job, using the real tools, equipment,

and document and even socializing with different kinds of people, especially for the

course of them. While having the students perform this program from their chosen

companies, the company also benefited them too. This can help the trainees to build
3

their confidence and gain experience to face the business industry. It gives the students

the chance to enhance their traits and mentally prepare them to face working

experiences from their company.

Time and Place of the On-the-Job Training

The trainee started on October 18, 2021, and ended on December 10, 2021, in

Golden Harvest, located at Malabon, Metro Manila.

4

GOLDEN HARVEST

The linkage concentrated on showing some data about the organization where

the trainee led his preparation.

THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

This incorporates all the experience of the trainee in his completely preparing

hours. It likewise incorporates the particular assignment performed by the student and

the qualities and issues that the trainee’s encountered throughout the time period.

Tasks Performed

The trainee’s daily routine together with his colleague were spent by using

Microsoft Excel, editing and cropping scanned images given by the manager, and

creating a system. The manager also improved the trainee’s knowledge on using

Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and Visual Basic.

Observed Strengths of the Training Area

The strengths of the training area are the employees are too friendly and they

were willing to teach the trainee whatever he needed to learn. They have given the

trainee proper guidance and care. He never had an awkward interaction with them

because they were kind and willing to help whenever he had a hard time handling the

tasks. The training was very effective and enjoyable; it helps the trainee to enhance his

skills and to expand his knowledge about things he still do not know. The manager was

also very gentle in teaching each of the OJT trainees.

Problems Encountered
8

He observed that the office lacks employees so when there are too many

customers, they are having a hard time entertaining them all; causing the process of

their loans to slow down. The office is also not too spacious so that it cannot

accommodate too many customers and he also noticed that their Microsoft Office is

outdated.

Insights

In the trainee’s experience of the on-the-job training, he learned that he will be an

employee soon and he must observe the attitude that he got used to. Socialization,

punctuality, and productivity are the keys to having a good term in one’s career.

The trainee highly suggests that the Golden Harvest Loan Facilitation Services

must improve their computer units and maintain security so that the customers can use

them without any worries. Also, they should hire more employees so that their work

would not pile up and they can entertain the other customers.
9

SUMMARY

On-the-job training is a good way to let the students learn more things and

explore the outside world. This is to prepare the students in the working industry and

deal with different kinds of people. On-the-job training allowed the students to practice

what they learned in their universities. In a short period of time, students were able to

handle small or big problems inside the office that they might face when they are already

working someday. The trainee observed certain norms inside the office and he was

bound to obey certain rules as well. He learned different kinds of things and experienced

how to handle work. There was a tough time but he was able to surpass and be

successful with the help of their OJT trainer. By means of this training, students

socializing experiences have improved. They were now ready to face new people and

were not scared to adapt to their new environment. Working in a company has a big

difference to their training, but with the experience they gained, it is now easy for them to

adjust to their new surroundings and face the real thing of working. His training ended as

well as it can be, memories and knowledge he harbored would be his foundation.

Day 01: 19 October 2021

I started my on-the-job training at home. First, we had our orientation where they

explained what to do that served as our guide throughout our training. We also

introduced ourselves together with the other trainees. Right after that, the manager gave

us our first task.

Day 2: 20 October 2021

On the second day of the on-the-job training, I helped my co-trainees plan the

design of a system. We gathered some logos that we will use in creating our design.

After that, the manager gave us a task and that was to edit a picture and to make a

presentation.

Day 3: 21 October 2021

On the third day of the on-the-job training, the manager gave us our tasks for that

day. After we finished our work, we continued spending our time working on the system.

In the afternoon, I made daily reports about customer payments.

Day 4: 22 October 2021

On the fourth day of the on-the-job training, while the others were working on the

tasks given to them, I continued doing the codes of the system. In the afternoon, the

manager assigned me to edit a picture for our customer’s data. During that day, I

realized that I am still trying to adapt to the new environment and decided to continue

doing my best.
36

Day 5: 25 October 2021

On the fifth day of on-the-job training, while I was working on my tasks, I

encountered a problem with our internet connection. Due to this problem that I already

expected to encounter during my training, it affected my work causing me to submit my

task after lunch. I explained it to my manager and asked for consideration.

Day 6: 26 October 2021

On the sixth day of the on-the-job training, we started to apply the background

design to the system’s interface. The icons and buttons are properly aligned. We are

determined to achieve the user-friendly, and easy-to-use user interface of the system.

Day 7: 27 October 2021

On the seventh day of the on-the-job training, I made some revisions to the graph

plan that we are going to use. During my co-trainee’s free time, I asked for their

suggestion and recommendation about the plan I revised. I spent the remaining time

finishing my daily tasks.

Day 8: 28 October 2021

On the eighth day of the on-the-job training, I encountered some difficulties with

this specific task that was assigned to me. I asked my co-trainees for their assistance, I

acquired new ideas and knowledge from them and eventually finished the task on time.

Today I learned that socializing and helping each other is helpful so, I will keep this in

mind when I become an employee in the future.

37

Day 9: 29 October 2021

On the ninth day of the on-the-job training, we edited and compiled the

customer’s personal information. After lunch, my co-trainees and I continued working

together to make some progress on the system’s code. I made daily reports about the

customer payment before ending the day.

Day 10: 3 November 2021

On the tenth day of the on-the-job training, I spent my morning editing using

Adobe Photoshop to design the logo for our system. After designing and editing, I

decided to work on the codes. I had some trouble with this, so I asked Rommel for help,

and he cooperated without a second thought.

Day 11: 4 November 2021

On the eleventh day of the on-the-job training, I worked on the tasks handed to

me. I did my best to finish everything on time and spent some of my free time helping

and waiting for my manager to assign me another task. In the afternoon, I decided to

encode updates on the customer’s payment using Microsoft Excel.

Day 12: 5 November 2021

On the twelfth day of the on-the-job training, I was a little busy due to the

assigned tasks. My other co-trainees worked on the system and made another progress

while the others, including me, spent our time finishing our work.
38

Day 13: 8 November 2021

On the thirteenth day of the on-the-job training, my co-trainee that was working

on the code had a little trouble. He asked for assistance, and we helped him. I noticed

that we were already making significant progress on it. My manager announced that we

would have a short meeting the following day.

Day 14: 9 November 2021

On the fourteenth day of the on-the-job training, we worked on our assigned

tasks before attending the zoom meeting. We had a brief discussion about the system

we are working on. We also talked about the problems we encountered and how we can

address them. Some minor updates and helpful advice were given before ending the

session.

Day 15: 10 November 2021

On the fifteenth day of the on-the-job training, the manager assigned me to edit

another picture for our customer’s data. I also edited the user interphase of our system

and I used Adobe Photoshop for the button’s icon.

Day 16: 11 November 2021

The sixteenth day of the on-the-job training is just an ordinary day where we

accomplished the given tasks early this morning. While in the afternoon, I spent my free

and remaining time helping others and working on the system. I also made the daily

report for this day and sent it to my manager.

39

Day 17: 12 November 2021

On the seventeenth day of the on-the-job training, we were assigned to do our

daily tasks. I finished it early, so I decided to help some co-trainees with their task. In the

afternoon, my co-trainees worked together on the system while I was editing the icon of

the system’s button.

Day 18: 15 November 2021

The eighteenth day of the on-the-job training was a bit busy day for me. I did

some daily tasks assigned to me and continued editing the customer’s personal

information. I spent the remaining time in the afternoon working on the daily report that I

need to submit.

Day 19: 16 November 2021

On the nineteenth day of the training, I continued editing customers’ personal

data. Today, we had our zoom meeting today to discuss the system, where my co-

trainees and I shared our plans and ideas. We realized that there is already significant

progress on the system we were focusing on and decided to continue doing our best to

finish what was stated.

Day 20: 17 November 2021

We executed the plan we talked about at the zoom meeting yesterday on the

twentieth day of the on-the-job training. After making some changes to it, one of my co-
40

trainees and I are were assigned to do some tasks. We immediately started working on

the given tasks while my other co-trainees carried on the plan we made yesterday.

Day 21: 22 November 2021

On the twenty-first day of the on-the-job training, we focused on the plan to finish

the system. There are only a few weeks left, so finishing the system is our top priority for

this day. The group came up with a plan to distribute parts to each member so that we

can finish the system.

Day 22: 23 November 2021

We spent the twenty-second day of the on-the-job training working on the tasks

given by the manager. Those who finished early with their duty continued the plan and

started working on the distributed parts they were assigned to. Since everyone is very

busy, I decided to look for something I can finish for the time not to be wasted.

Day 23: 24 November 2021

On the twenty-third day of the on-the-job training, we did not do much since the

manager did not give us any tasks. I continued on the part given to me so I can finish it

and make some changes to the system.

Day 24: 25 November 2021

On the twenty-fourth day of the on-the-job training, the trainees had our meeting

to discuss the system’s progress and check if each of everyone is doing their
41

responsibility. We called out some minor mistakes and gave reminders to focus on the

assigned parts to finish everything on time.

Day 25: 26 November 2021

On the twenty-fifth day of the on-the-job training, I suffered a slow internet

connection. I messaged the group to inform them about my situation, and since I could

not do much because of the problem, I just continued using Adobe Photoshop to design

some icons left.

Day 26: 29 November 2021

My internet connection recovered on the twenty-sixth day, so I passed the work I

finished yesterday. My manager then assigned me to do the daily reports, so I spent my

time finishing them.

Day 27: 1 December 2021

On the twenty-seventh day of the on-the-job training, I realized that we were

already close to finishing the system we were working on. We messaged the group to

discuss it and decided to focus on the system on time.

Day 28: 2 December 2021

I carried on my typical day on the twenty-eighth day of the on-the-job training. I

worked on the tasks and daily reports that I needed to submit to my manager. We also

worked on the system since there are only a few days left before the final presentation.
42

Day 29: 3 December 2021

On the twenty-ninth day of the on-the-job training, we were rushing to work on

the system. We checked if there were any errors or something we could change before

the presentation.

Day 30: 6 December 2021

On our thirtieth day, which is the last day, we presented the final output of the

system we were assigned to work on. If there is something I noticed after finishing the

240 hours of training is that I gained much knowledge. I developed some skills that I

could probably use in the future. I learned how to deal with people and even problems

that I faced that I would probably encounter once I become an employee. Since this is

the last day, we need to bid goodbye. I am very thankful to my manager and to my co-

trainees, who helped me to gain a lot of experience and memories of being an OJT

trainee.

Loan Management System

Project Description

A loan management system is a digital platform that helps automate every stage

of the loan lifecycle, from application to closing. The traditional loan management

process is meticulous, time-consuming, and requires collecting and verifying information

about applicants, their trustworthiness, and their credibility.

Our system includes the role of who will use the system, admin system in which

the admin can create an account for an agent. The agent can create an account for a

customer, update the details of the customer, and delete the account of the customer.

The agent can also check the balance, withdraw, and deposit the said amount by the

customer.
45

Project Structure

Figure 1. Login Module

Figure 1 shows the login form. They must put the proper username and

password to gain access to the system. There is two user lever who can log in; the

admin and the agent. The admin can create an account for the agent. The agent can

create, update, and delete an account of a customer. The agent can check the balance

as the customer wishes. The agent can also withdraw, deposit, and transfer the given

amount by the customer.

46

Figure 2. Manage Agents Form

Figure 2 shows the administrator admin can add a new account for an agent.

The admin can see the list of agent that has been created. If the agent’s details were

wrong, the admin can edit it. If the agent was not existing anymore, the admin can delete

the records of it.

47
48

Figure 3. Add Agent Account

Figure 3 shows the admin created a new account for an agent. The new account

now can log in to the Login Form as long they pick the role as agent. Creating a new

account does have a primary key so the data cannot be redundant.

Figure 4. Edit Agent Account

Figure 4 shows where the Admin updates some details on an agent’s account. If

ever the details about the agent were wrong, the admin can immediately fix it.
50

Figure 5. Delete Agent Account

Figure 5 shows where the admin can delete an agent’s account. If the agent is no

longer part of the company, the admin can delete it.

51

Figure 6. Agent Menu Form

Figure 6 shows what an agent can access. It includes a list of accounts of

customers. The agent can add, update, and delete the customer’s account. The agent

can use the transactions where it can check the balance of the customer, deposit,

withdraw, and transfer to other accounts given by the customer.

52

Figure 7. Account Information Form

Figure 7 shows that an agent can add, edit, delete a customer’s information.

Customer’s information includes the name, phone number, address, occupation,

education, gender, and income. This is the only necessary data that the system needs.
53

Figure 8. Add Customer Account

Figure 8 shows that once you already put the necessary data to create an

account for a customer, it will prompt as successful. Otherwise, it will have an error and

it will not be created. Creating a new customer account will have its primary key so the

data will not be redundant.

54

Figure 9. Update Customer Account

Figure 9 shows where the agent updates some details on the customer’s

account. If ever the agent inputted the wrong information about the customer by mistake,

the agent can easily edit the information.

55

Figure 10. Delete Customer Account

Figure 10 shows the agent deleted the account of the customer. If the customer

is no longer a customer of the company, the agent can delete it. This will ensure that the

company will give their customers peace of mind about their stored information and it will

be handled accordingly.
56

Figure 11. Transactions Form

Figure 11 shows the transaction form where the agent can check the balance of

the customer, withdraw the amount requested by the customer, deposit by the given

amount of customer, and transfer the given amount provided by the customer.
57

Figure 12. Checking the Balance of Customer

Figure 12 shows where the agent checks the balance of the customer. By

inputting the account number which is unique for every account, the system will output

the remaining amount of the customer’s account.

58

Figure 13. Deposit from Customer

Figure 13 shows the agent deposited the amount as what the customer wanted.

Once it is deposited, it will notify the agent and it will automatically update the database.

There is a button that will help the customer accounts of both the transferrer and the
