Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan in English – III

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. relate personal views through the poem;
b. arrive at the meaning of unfamiliar words through context clues;
c. single out worthwhile human values highlighted in the poem;

II. Subject Matter


Topic: “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost

Visual Aids, boxes, projector, laptop

B. Priming Activities
a. Motivation
The teacher will show two different boxes and let the students to choose
one and then cite their reason for choosing it.

 Have you ever been in a situation wherein you are confused in making
your decision? If so, how do you handle the situation?

 The students will listen to the video presentation of “The Road Not
Taken” by Robert Frost

D. Analysis

Based on the story, have the students answer the following questions:

1. How many roads are mentioned in the poem?


2. What are the two roads mentioned in the poem?
3. Which road did the traveler took? What is his reason for that?
4. If you were the traveler, are you going to take the same road or are you
going to take the road traveled by many?
5. What do significant role do choices play in our lives?

a. Abstraction

1. There are two roads mentioned in the poem.


2. The two roads are the one who traveled by many and the less one traveled
by.
3. The traveler took the road less traveled by because he wants to experience
something different afar from the rest who took the other path.
4. If I were a traveler, I will choose the road less traveled because I want to
experience something different in my life.
If I were a traveler, I will choose the road who traveled by many for the
reason that reaching my goal using that road is going to be easy.
V. Application
Group Activities
Students will form a group of four. The teacher will let the students to interpret
the poem “The Road Not Taken’’.

Group 1 - first stanza


Group 2 - second stanza
Group 3 - third stanza
Group 4 - fourth stanza
VI. Evaluation
Individual work – Ask students to write an essay with the following topic,
“You are offered two jobs by two different companies: One is a high-paying job with
long hours and better prospects but would give you little time with family and friends.
The other one is a lower-paying job with shorter hours and less responsibilities that
would give you more time with family and friends. Which one would you choose?
Explain your choice, using specific reasons and details.” (With the help of a mind
map)

VII. Assignment
Compare and contrast “The Road Not Taken” with Frost’s another poem “Stopping
by the Wood on Snowy Evening.
