I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner will be able to understand and appreciate the
elements and contexts of 21st century Philippine literature from the regions.

A. PREPARATION

B. MOTIVATION
(The class will be divided into 3 groups)
Activity title: “CRACK THE CODES”
DIRECTIONS: Decode each letter by solving the following simple mathematical
problems, and then convert what is the corresponding letter on the problem given. The
first group to get the correct answer for each problem will have a reward.
C. ANALYSIS
Each group will be distributed with two pictures showing a colored and a
black and white.
Process questions:
1. What photos are you holding right now?
2. Which of the two pictures do you think is more attractive? Why?
D. ABSTRACTION
DISCUSSION
Present 2 samples to the class.
1. “It is raining a lot, so I ride the bus.”
2. “It is raining cats and dogs, so I ride the bus.”

1. Which of the following sample is belong to literal language or figurative
language?
2. Based on the samples given, define literal and figurative language in your
own words.
Literal Language
- Uses the actual meaning of words or phrases in their exact sense.
- Is direct to the point.
- Is usually used in casual conversations.
Figurative Language
- Uses different figures of speech to make the content more persuasive or to
have a greater impact.
- Needs to be carefully analyzed to discover its meaning.
- Is commonly used in literary works.
Example:
I’m so hungry, I could eat a horse.
Process questions:
1. Identify the sample given as literal or figurative language
2. What does the statement imply or infer?
E. APPLICATION
GROUP ACTIVITY
GROUP 1
Activity: “Lights Camera Action”
Directions: Create a role-play that uses literal and figurative language and
choose your own scenario. You are given only 3 minutes to act.
GROUP 2
Activity: “Analyze text messages”
Directions: Find examples of figurative language used in the following text
messages. Write your answer in your cartolina.
Group 3
Activity: “Music Lyrics, I-figure out mo”
Directions: Locate at least 3 figurative languages used in the music and
explain the meaning of the chosen figurative language. Write your answer in
your cartolina.
Process questions:
1. What’s the difference between literal and figurative language?
2. What work is commonly used in figurative language?
3. Why do we use literal language and figurative language?
V. ASSESSMENT
In your ¼ sheet of paper, identify the phrases as literal or figurative. Write L if
it’s literal and F if figurative
