Objective:
While transferring files from one computer to the other, we copy them over the network to a
shared folder. VMware has taken this concept and has come up with its own way to share
folders. This lab exercise explains how to create a shared folder in VMWare Workstation.

2) Configure the VM Settings
Step 1 VM Settings
Click on VM to create a shared folder. Then click on Settings on any valid virtual machine. It is
also possible to create a shared folder while a virtual machine is running.

Step 2 Adding Shared Folder Option
Click the Options tab and highlight Shared folders.
Click Add

Step 3 “Welcome to Add Share Folder Wizard”
“Welcome to the Add Shared Folder Wizard” appears.
Once the Wizard appears, click on Next to continue to the other step.
This Wizard guides you through the steps of adding a new-shared folder to the virtual machine.
Click Next

3) Add Share Folder Wizard
Click on Browse and select the Folder from the host to be shared.

Step 2 Naming the folder
Here provide a name for the shared folder and click on Next to continue.
Click Next

Step 3 Specifying Shared Folder Attributes
Here you need to specify the shared folder attributes.
Select the option that says enable either this share or the option for read-only attribute.
Click Finish

Step 4 Sharing the folder
After clicking Finish, a new window opens.
There are lists of folders that can be chosen to share from the Folders Tab window.
Select the folder that has to be shared in the guest virtual machine and click on Ok.
Click OK

4) View the Shared Folder
To view the shared folder on the guest operating system, click on Start.
