Concrete is a popular material for many construction applications. List FIVE (5)

a) The hydration process in concrete is the Chemical reaction that takes place
between cement and water. When water is added to cement, each of the
compounds undergoes hydration and contributes to the final concrete product. List
out the different stages of hydration. (CO1-PO2)(C1-C2)

b) Concrete admixtures are natural or manufactured chemicals or additives added

during concrete mixing to enhance specific properties of the fresh or hardened
concrete, such as workability, durability, or early and final strength.
Identify the suitable type of concrete admixture for the following senario. (Give a
brief explaination): (CO1-PO2)(C3-C4)

i) Concreting in hot weather and the journey from the mixing plant to the
construction site might be delayed by high traffic volume.
ii) Repair and renovation of concrete basement with high ground water table.
