1. In not more than 2 sentences, state the relationship of society and
schools.
The schools serve as agents of socialization. They equip individuals, especially the
learners for their varied roles in the society.

2. What is meant by SOCIALIZATION as a function of schools?

Socialization is the process by which individuals internalize the norms and values of
society and so social and cultural continuity are attained. Which by means that
socialization is the function of education, the schools prepare us for future roles such
as being a spouse, parent, or a professional someday.

3. Can schools change the socializing effect of family, the primary agent
of socialization? Can an excellent school undo the socializing effect
of an extremely deprived home? Explain.
In my perspective, I think a great school can still change the socializing effect of an
individual who came from an extremely deprived home. Teachers and other school
staffs have a great influence on a pupil’s life. They can teach them the effective way
to socialize as well as to impart or enrich them with values that will be helpful for
them as they grow up.

4. In the Philippines, was education a privilege enjoyed by all Filipinos

since the pre-colonial period? Why or why not?
Yes, definitely I can say that we are privileged enough to have a government or a
society which supports the children to be educated. The Filipinos are enjoying an
affordable and quality education. Though from pre-colonial period, education was
hard but then during the American regime our system of education has greatly
improved which we can say that we are enjoying it up to these days. Philippines has
produced many successful individuals and even until now, many students are
enjoying the opportunity to learn.
5. Was the College Entrance Examination (NCEE) in support of equal
access to quality education? Why was it abolished when it did
exactly what Filipinos then wanted?
The College Entrance Examination (NCEE) serves as a gate pass to tertiary
education. While others might think that the access to equal and quality education is
being deprived due to the entrance examination because some may not be able to
pass the examination, for me I’m looking from the other side of the coin. The
entrance examination only ensures that the students who wants to enroll to college
should have a prior and enough knowledge so that they we can conform to the
standard to produce learners which are competent and competitive enough. Maybe
it was abolished because some are raising petitions to remove college entrance
examinations so that tertiary education could be accessible for all.
