LTE B20 RRH2x40-A (UHMB) Technical Description Product Overview
– clocking and network synchronization
– baseband processing
– communication to Remote Radio Head (RRH).
• one or more RRHs perform the following functions:
– conversion between a digital In-phase/Quadrature (I/Q) data stream from the
BBU and RF signals transmitted or received via the RRH antenna ports
– local control of tower mounted amplifiers and antenna tilt units.
These two components are linked by optical fibres which carry LTE downlink and uplink
(main and diversity) base band digital signals along with OAM information. A specific
grouping of BBUs and RFMs is referred to as an eNodeB configuration.
For B20 RRH2x40-A , the reference functional model of an RRH (dual-transmit / dual-
receive type) is shown below. Note that the functions shown in the diagram may not map
one-to-one with hardware devices on the RRH.

Component Function
RFM Controller Provides local control and monitoring of the RFM, anchors the TCP/IP
communication link to OA&M Control and the maintenance port, communicates
via the serial port.
Digital Does processing of the I/Q stream to and from the RFM.
Processing
Transmit Path Provides modulation, RF gain, and bandpass filtering for downlink signals.
Dual transmit RFMs provide two transmit paths, which are referred to in this
document as the Main Transmit Path (Tx1) and Diversity Transmit Path (Tx2).
(Note that for clarity in the diagram the transmit and receive path boxes do not
extend to include the bandpass filter, but the filter is considered a part of these
RF paths).
Receive Path Provides bandpass filtering, low noise amplification, and demodulation of the
uplink signals.

Mounting Options
B20 RRH2x40-A can be pole, U-steel, angle steel, or wall mounting, using the
appropriate mounting kit.
Method of installation:
• To ensure the heat dissipation of the RRH and waterproofing of the ports at the
bottom of the RRH, the vertical deviation angle of an RRH must be less than or equal
to 10 degrees, as shown in Figure 4: Requirements for the vertical deviation angle of
an RRH.
• On a tower, an RRH can be installed on a pole, angle steel, or U-steel. The side-
mounted installation mode (one side instead of the rear of an RRH is mounted on the
support) is recommended for RRHs on the main pole secured on a tower. This
installation mode allows multiple RRHs to be installed next to each other at the same
level on a pole. When the horizontal distance between the main and auxiliary poles
on a tower is equal to or greater than 810 mm (23.62 in.), the side-mounted mode is
recommended for installing RRHs on the auxiliary pole to meet the minimum
clearance requirements. Otherwise, the standard mode is recommended for
installing RRHs on the auxiliary pole.

This section describes the requirements for the installation clearance of a single RRH
and multiple RRHs and the requirements for the installation spacing between RRHs.
g Note:
• The recommended clearance ensures normal running and provides an appropriate
space for operation and maintenance (OM). If there is sufficient space, leave the
recommended clearance after installing the equipment.
• The minimum clearance ensures normal running and heat dissipation, but OM
activities such as checking indicator status and opening the cabling cavity cannot
be properly conducted. If the installation space is restricted, leave the minimum
clearance after installing the equipment.

RF and CPRI configuration LTE B20 RRH2x40-A (UHMB) Technical Description
4.1 RF configurations
The RF capacity is measured in sectors, carriers, and RF signal power. The RF capacity
determines what components appear in the B20 RRH2x40-A module and what antenna
connections are required.
Physical RF connections
The eNodeB can be connected to a B20 RRH2x40-A with the following RF frequency:
• B20 RRH2x40-A: 791 - 821MHz (3GPP Band 20)
The B20 RRH2x40-A modules accept the following connections:
• Two RF antenna connectors with 7/16 DIN female connector.
RF configurations
An eNodeB can be equipped with one up to three RRHs with each RRH serving one
sector. Below table list the different RF configurations supported (release dependant):

LTE B20 RRH2x40-A (UHMB) Technical Description RF and CPRI configuration
AISG configurations
All of the RRHs support AISG 2.0 control of antenna line devices (typically RET units
and/or TMAs). All RRHs feature a separate RS484 AISG port and some support in
addition AISG on one or two of the Tx/Rx ports by building in one or two internal bias-T.
Table below is summarizing all recommended AISG configurations supported by B20
RRH2x40-A and depending on RF configuration and use case:

Note 2: AISG OOK signal and DC power available on inner conductor of RF port A & B
AISG scanning of B20 RRH2x40-A starts on the RS485 port and if ALDs are detected on
it, that port will be active and scanning with stop. If no ALDs are detected on the RS485
port than scanning will continue on RF port A and if ALD are detected on it, that port will
be active and scanning will continue on RF port B.

RF and CPRI configuration LTE B20 RRH2x40-A (UHMB) Technical Description
Daisy chaining of up to 9 RET units is supported by the software but the combined power
draw of that many units may exceed the power capacity of the AISG port resulting in a
lower practical limit on the number of daisy-chained RETs. AISG cable type and length
also affect the number of supported RETs.
Any ALD compliant to the AISG2.0 standard may function normally but only those which
have been tested for interoperability are guaranteed by ALU. A list of the approved
devices can be provided upon request. Approved ALDs will give the customer the best
option for a successful integration.
AISG configuration 1
Below AISG configurations are the recommended configuration (AISG through the
RS485 port of RRH) for any RF configuration when RRH is located near the antenna.
AISG configuration2
Below AISG configurations are the recommended configuration (AISG through the RF
ports) for any RF configuration when RRH is located far from the antenna.

RF signal-Uplink
Two RX signals are received from the antennas, filtered and amplified with Low Noise
Amplifiers. The signals are down-converted before being converted into digital signals,
then multiplexed according to I/Q radio signals format and converted into optical signals
that are sent to the CCM.
RF logical structure
