2 Safety
This chapter covers safety precautions.
2.1 Safety
General precautions for installation procedures
f WARNING!
– Read and understand all instructions.
– Follow all warnings and instructions marked on this product.
– Installation and maintenance procedures must be followed and performed by
trained personnel only.
– The equipment must be provided with a readily accessible disconnect device as
part of site preparation.
– Grounding and circuit continuity is vital for safe operation of the equipment. Never
operate the equipment with grounding/bonding conductor disconnected.
– Install only equipment identified in the product's installation manual. Use of other
equipment may result in an improper connection which could lead to fire or injury.
– Use caution when installing or modifying telecommunications lines.
– The product has multiple power inputs. Before servicing, Disconnect all inputs to
reduce the risk of energy hazards.
– For continued protection against risk of fire, all fuses used in this product must be
replaced only with fuses of the same type and rating.
– Never install telecommunications wiring during a lightning storm.
– Never install telecommunications connections in wet locations.
– Never touch uninsulated wiring or terminals carrying direct current or ringing
current, and never leave this wiring exposed. Protect and tape uninsulated wiring
and terminals to avoid risk of fire, electrical shock, and injury to personnel.
– Never spill liquids of any kind on the product.
– To reduce the risk of an electrical shock, do not disassemble the product. Opening
and removing covers and/or circuit boards may expose you to dangerous voltages
or other risks. Incorrect reassembly can cause electrical shock when the unit is
subsequently used.
f DANGER! electric-shock
Working in severe weather can result in personal injury or death and damage to the
equipment.
Never install or perform maintenance during severe weather (high winds, lightning,
blizzards, hurricane etc.).

f DANGER! noxious-substance
Use of unspecified cleaning agents can result in personal injury.
Use only specified cleaning agents. Never use flammable solvents.
Always ensure there is adequate ventilation in the work area and wear the appropriate
personal protective equipment.
f DANGER! laser
This equipment operates with invisible laser radiation. Laser radiation can cause
considerable injuries to the eyes.
Never look into the end of an exposed fiber or into an open optical connector when the
optical source is switched on. Always observe the laser warning instructions.
f WARNING! electric-shock
Some parts of all electrical installations are energized. Failure to observe this fact and
the safety warnings may lead to bodily injury and property damage.
For this reason, only trained and qualified personnel (electrical workers as defined in
IEC 60215 + A1 or EN 60215) may install or service the installation.
f WARNING! electric-shock
The power supply lines to the network element are energized. Contact with parts
carrying voltage can cause health problems, possibly including death, even hours after
the event.
Open and lockout the load disconnect switch in the distribution box to completely de-
energize the network element.
f WARNING! electric-shock
This product may be connected to an AC main power supply and may contain an
internal battery supply. Disconnecting one power source may not de-energize the
system, and can lead to serious injury.
Disconnect and lock out the AC main power supply, if present, and the internal battery
supply, if present, before servicing the equipment.
f WARNING! laser
The light from laser and high-radiance LED's may cause eye damage if absorbed by the
retina.
In the US consult ANSI Z136.2, in Europe consult IEC-60825 Safety of laser products,
for guidance on the safe use of optical fiber communication systems in the workplace.

w NOTICE: Semiconductor devices can be damaged by electrostatic discharges.
The following rules must be complied with when handling any module containing
semiconductor components:
• Wear conductive or antistatic working clothes (for example, coat made of 100%
cotton).
• Wear the grounded wrist strap.
• Wear shoes with conductive soles on a conductive floor surface or conductive work
mat.
• Leave the modules in their original packaging until ready for use.
• Make sure there is no difference in potential between yourself, the workplace, and
the packaging before removing, unpacking, or packing a module.
• Hold the module only by the grip without touching the connection pins, tracks, or
components.
• Test or handle the module only with grounded tools on grounded equipment.
• Handle defective modules exactly like new ones to avoid causing further damage.
w NOTICE: Sudden changes in the weather may lead to the formation of condensation
on components. Operating the unit when condensation moisture is present can destroy
the unit.
Units which show signs of condensation must be dried before installation.
f CAUTION! laceration
The RRH may have sharp edges and burrs and contact may cause cuts and
lacerations.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
w NOTICE: Tools left in the working area can cause short circuits during operation which
can lead to the destruction of units.
Make sure after finishing your work that no tools, testing equipment, flashlights, etc.,
have been left in or on the equipment.
w NOTICE: Inadequate circulation of cooling air can cause some units to become too
warm. This can lead to operational impairment.
Cover all installation slots for unequipped units with blanking panels.
f CAUTION! hot-surface
Touching a hot heater may cause burns.
Do not touch the heaters.
Before touching the units wait until they have cooled down, wear safety gloves and
clothes.
w NOTICE: Cleaning plastic containers and lids with abrasive and aggressive cleaning
agents may cause permanent damage.
Do not use solvents, paraffin, abrasive or aggressive cleaning fluids, abrasive or
aggressive antiseptic agents or abrasive or aggressive materials.

w NOTICE: Cleaning with water or a high-pressure cleaner may damage the components
in the RRH.
The washing down of the equipment with water or a high-pressure cleaner is not
permitted.
f CAUTION! lifting
Lifting this equipment by yourself can result in injury due to the size and weight of the
equipment.
Always use at least three people or a lifting device to move or position this equipment.

4 Site configurations
This chapter provides configuration information for the RRH site.
4.1 RF configurations
The RF capacity is measured in sectors, carriers, and RF signal power. The RF capacity
determines what components appear in the RRH and what antenna connections are
required.
Physical RF connections
The base station can be connected to RRHs with the follow RF frequency.
• 800 MHz ( band20 )
The RRH accept connections for:
• The RF antenna cables with 7-16 DIN coaxial female connectors.
• The RF connectors are always female, then the cables used to interconnect the
equipments are male-male.
RF configurations
The following configurations are supported.
2 transmit/receive paths 800 MHz
The Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) of the RRHs can be connected in two
different ways to the Base Band Unit:
• Star configuration
• Daisy chain configuration
Star configuration
The star configuration is used when the RRHs are being mounted far from each other,
but nearly equally spaced from the Base Band Unit.

The RRH shall be HW ready to support daisy chaining
• The distance range is less than 10 meters to support 4-way MIMO
• Up to 3 RRH modules in a daisy chain
• Two daisy-chained RRH shall support a hop of any distance up to at least TBD km

If the installation is performed with energized DC circuits or with a battery backup
supply connected, an energy hazard exists.
Therefore, always use tools that are properly insulated.
The following is a master list, in alphabetical order, of all tools that may be utilized during
installation:
• Torque driver and No.2 Pozi-Drive bit (5Nm)
• 19mm adjustable torque spanner (1.0 and 1.5Nm)
• Torque Wrench (Capable of measuring 1, 1.5 and 5Nm) with 17 and 19mm
Hexagonal Sockets.
• 13mm sockets
• 13mm adjustable torque spanner or torque wrench and sockets (10 and 15Nm)
• Box cutter or equivalent, to open packaging
• Crimping tools 22-16 gauge, 10-4/0 gauge (5-120 mm2) for installation of terminal
lugs and c-taps (R-3695A)
• Drill and drill bits (for mounting RRHs on a wall)
• Ear protection gear

• Insulated hand tools (for completing electrical connections)
• Ladder or work stand/stool
• Level (steel)
• Lifting sling
• Marker, to mark floor for lineup and drilling
• Measuring tape
• Nut driver set (decimal) with 10-inch extension
• Nut driver set (metric) with 250-mm extension
• Ohmmeter (Multimeter, volt/ohmmeter, or equivalent)

Suhner connectors; part number ITE-7189 for Andrew connectors.

• 16mm (0.63 in.) and 32 mm (1.26 in.) Torque wrench
• 18mm adjustable torque spanner or torque wrench and sockets (35--40Nm)
• Wire stripper
• Wire rope or chain slings, 7/16 inch (11 mm), 7 feet long (2 m), minimum (quantity: 2)
• Wrench - Adjustable, (3/4 in./20 mm) open-ended wrench (or set of fixed open-ended
wrenches)
• Wrench - Flare Nut or Box Wrench, 12 mm (1/2 in.) required to install seismic
anchors.
g Note: Some of the tools in the master list is useful in some cases, but would not be
used in all RRH installations.
Supplies needed
The following is a master list, in alphabetical order, of all supplies that are required during
installation of the RRHs.
• Antioxidant compound (provided)
• Lacing cord, waxed #50
• Red tape or tags - 145C or equivalent, for tagging of DC power cables
• Shims - for leveling the floor stand (provided with anchoring kit)

• RF and antenna runs must be installed.

f WARNING!
If the RRH falls while being lifted, it may injure or kill a person.
Take both of the following precautions:
– Use lifting shackles and lifting straps that can support the RRH if one shackle or
one lifting strap fails and three remain. If a separate rating for shear is not provided,
each shackle must be used at no more than 25% of its tension rating.
– Keep the area beneath the RRH and the immediate surrounding area completely
clear of personnel at all times during the lifting operation.
Overview
f CAUTION!
Verify that the insulation layers of all RRH cables are intact. If the insulation layers are
damaged or broken, water will penetrate into the cables, which may cause damages to
RRHs or human injury.
To protect the equipment and prevent damage to the equipment, you are advised to
keep the unpacked equipment and packing materials indoors, take photos of the
stocking environment, packing case or carton, packing materials, and any rusted or
eroded equipment, and then file the photos.
This topic includes the procedures and precautions for transporting and hoisting an RRH
and its mounting brackets onto a tower. On a tower, an RRH can be installed on a pole,
angle steel, or U-steel.

5. Check the type and quantity of the equipment in the cases according to the packing
list.
6. Report damage as required.
g Note: When transporting, moving, or installing the equipment, components, or parts,
you must:
• Prevent them from colliding with doors, walls, shelves, or other objects
• Wear clean gloves, and avoid touching the equipment, components, or parts with
bare hands, sweat-soaked gloves, or dirty gloves
• After an RRH is unpacked, it must be powered on within 24 hours
w Before attempting to use derrick equipment, refer to Chapter 2, "Safety precautions for
handling equipment".
f When the RRH is used with an AC/DC power module, you need to install the AC/DC
power module onto the RRH before hoisting the RRH onto a tower. For details about
how to install an AC/DC power module onto the RRH, see Installing an AC/DC Power
Module onto an RRH.
• Do not stand the RRH upright because the RF ports cannot support the weight of
the RRH
• Place a foam pad or cardboard under the RRH to protect the RRH housing from
damage during the installation
The RRHs typically arrive at the site by truck. This topic assumes that:
• Each RRH is on a pallet (or equivalent)
• The packaging has been removed.

Procedure
1 After climbing up to the tower, technician A secures the fixed pulley to the tower platform
support and leads the lifting sling through the fixed pulley.

Personnel injury or equipment damage
When moving the RRH, use appropriate lifting devices and sufficient number of
personnel.
w Hoist mounting brackets onto the tower and then install the mounting brackets before
hoisting the RRH onto the tower. When hoisting the mounting brackets and RRH,
protect them from colliding with the tower..
2 Uses the lifting sling to bind the mounting bracket for the RRH, as shown:
f The load-bearing capacity of each sling must be greater than 200 kg (441 lb) and the
diameter of each sling must be less than 25 mm (0.98 in.).

3 Uses the lifting sling and traction sling to bind the RRH, as shown:

4 Technician B pulls the lifting sling downwards, and technician C pulls the traction sling
outwards to protect the RRH from colliding with the tower.
f When hoisting the RRH onto a tower, protect them from colliding with the tower and
ground.
g Note: The procedure for hoisting the RRH and its mounting brackets onto the tower is
for your reference only.

Procedure
1 Carefully lift and transport the RRH to the installation position.
2 Installation engineer A catches the RRH, install the RRH on the main bracket, use an
inner hexagon screwdriver wrench to tighten the captive screw into the hole of the
attachment plate to 5 N•m (44.25 lb-in.) .
3 Set the RRH down at or near the installation position, depending on the type of mounting
method is to be used.
4 Remove the lifting sling and traction sling.
5 Determine if the RRH is being installed against on a pole or an steel.

w Various building materials and construction methods dictate that the RRH be fastened
to the wall with appropriate mounting hardware. It is the responsibility of the customer to
provide any necessary support material and structures to ensure that the installation will
be in compliance with Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA), Uniform
Building Code (UBC), and all local codes.
The following figures illustrate the mounting bracket used to mount the RRH on a wall,
and also the hole patterns to fix it on the wall. The same bracket is used also in case of
pole mounting.
Disassemble the RRH mounting brackets
• Use an M6 inner hexagon torque screwdriver wrench to remove the four inner
hexagon screws on the pole installation bracket, and remove the main bracket from
the pole installation bracket
• Use an M10 torque wrench to loosen the nuts on the two square-neck bolts, and
remove the plastic cap, nuts, spring washers, flat washers, square-neck bolts, and
pole installation bracket from the auxiliary bracket

g Note: It is recommended that the installation bracket be installed at a height of 1200
mm (47.24 in.) to 1600 mm (62.99 in.) above the ground.
Drill holes at the anchor points, and then insert expansion anchor bolt assemblies:

f Take proper safety measures to protect your eyes and respiratory tract against the dust
before drilling holes.
• Use a hammer drill with a Ф12 bit to drill holes vertically at the marked anchor points.
Ensure that the depth of each hole ranges from 55 mm (2.17 in.) to 60 mm (2.36 in.).
• Tighten the expansion anchor bolts slightly and place one vertically into each hole.
• Use a rubber mallet to pound the expansion anchor bolt until it goes all the way into
the hole.
• Tighten and then loosen the expansion bolt, and remove the M10 bolt, spring
washer, and flat washer in sequence.
g Note: After dismantling an expansion anchor bolt, ensure that the top of the expansion
tube is on the same level as the wall. Otherwise, the device cannot be installed on the
wall evenly and securely.

Procedure
1 Install the pole installation bracket on the expansion anchor bolts, place the flat washers,
spring washers, and nuts through the expansion anchor bolts in sequence, and then use
a 16 mm (0.63 in.) torque socket to tighten the nuts to 30 N•m (21.2 lb-ft.).

2 Attach the main bracket onto the pole installation bracket, and use an inner hexagon
wrench to tighten four M6x16 inner hexagon screws to 5 N•m (44.25 lb-in.) so that the
main bracket and pole installation bracket are firmly secured.
Result
The RRH mounting bracket is attached to the wall.
f CAUTION!
The bolts on the RRH can pinch and damage your fingers.
Keep fingers clear when lowering the RRH into position.

1 Use an inner hexagon wrench to remove the attachment plate from one side of the RRH,
reinstall the attachment plate onto the rear of the RRH, and tighten the four stainless
screws to 5 N•m (44.25lb-in.)

3 Use a 16 mm (0.63 in.) M10 torque wrench to tighten the nuts to 40 N•m (29.5 lb-ft.) so
that the mounting brackets are secured onto the pole, as shown:
g Note: Tighten the nuts on the two square-neck bolts alternately. After the main and
auxiliary brackets are secured properly, measure the spacing between the brackets on
both sides and ensure that the spacing is the same on the two sides.

from the handle of the second RRH and remove the screw.
• Use an M6 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw on the metal sheet closer to
handle of the second RRH. Then rotate the metal sheet to align the vacant hole
in the metal sheet with a hole on the top of the first RRH.
• Insert the removed screw into the hole on the top of the first RRH and use an M6
torque screwdriver to tighten the screw to 5 N•m (44.25 lb-in.).

from the handle of the second RRH and remove the screw.
• Use an M6 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw on the metal sheet closer to
handle of the first RRH. Then rotate the metal sheet to align the vacant hole in
the metal sheet with a hole on the top of the third RRH.
• Insert the removed screw into the hole on the top of the first RRH and use an M6
torque screwdriver to tighten the screw to 5 N•m (44.25 lb-in.).
5 Install the second set of RRH mounting brackets above or below the first set of RRH
mounting brackets and maintain a space equal to or greater than 80 mm (3.15 in.)
between the two sets of brackets.

This section describes the procedures to be followed when installing the RRH on 121mm
to 400mm diameter pole with pole brackets and pole bands.
Only one RRH can be installed on a pole with the large pole mounting kit.
The RRH can be installed on the large pole with the two following positions :

A kit to adapt metallic bands on pole must be used together with components from the
standard pole mounting kit.

Procedure
1 Screw the two large pole brackets to the standard Pole Bracket using four M6x14 bolts.
Torque to 5 N*m.
2 Screw the Main Bracket to the Pole Bracket using four M6x14 bolts. Torque to 5 N*m.
3 Determine a position for installing the mounting brackets. Pass the metal bands through
the outer rectangular holes in the large pole brackets and strap the assembly to the pole.
g Note: Adjust the position of the basement(s) so that they are centered on the horizontal
and vertical lines marked on the pole.
4 The band will lock into the lever on the band clamp. Once the band is pulled tight, tighten
the nuts on the band clamps to 30 N*m.

5 Fix the accessory to the RRH and lift the RRH.
6 Attach the RRH with accessory to the basement, Use an inner hexagon torque wrench to
tighten the captive screw into the holes on the top of the attachment plate and main
bracket to5N•m (44.25lb-in.) so that the attachment plate and main bracket are firmly
secured.
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing the RRH on U-steel.
An RRH can be installed on U-steel secured on the ground or a tower. Each piece of U-
steel allows only one RRH to be installed in standard or reverse mode.

auxiliary brackets are secured properly, measure the spacing between the brackets on

Cabling Requirements
Cables must be routed according to the specified cabling requirements to prevent signal
interference.
Requirements for Bending Radius:
• The bending radius of the 7/8'' feeder must be more than 250 mm (9.84 in.), and the
bending radius of the 5/4'' feeder must be more than 380 mm (14.96 in.).
• The bending radius of the 1/4'' jumper must be more than 35 mm (1.38 in.). The
bending radius of the super-flexible 1/2'' jumper must be more than 50 mm (1.97 in.),
and the bending radius of the ordinary 1/2'' jumper must be more than 127 mm (5
in.).
• The bending radius of the power cable or PGND cable must be at least three times
the diameter of the cable.
• The bending radius of a fiber optic cable is at least 20 times the diameter of the fiber
optic cable, and the minimum bending radius of the breakout cable at each end of
the fiber optic cable is 30 mm (1.18 in.).
• The bending radius of the signal cable must be at least five times the diameter of the
cable.
Requirements for Cable Binding:
• The same types of cable must be bound together.
• Different types of cable must be separately routed with the minimum spacing of 30
mm (1.18 in.) and cannot be entangled.
• The cables must be bound tightly and neatly. The sheaths of the cables must not be
damaged.
• Labels or nameplates must be attached to both ends, joints, or turns of cables after
they are installed.
g Note: When routing RRH cables, ensure that the highest positions of the routes of all
RRH cables (except RF cables and AISG cables) must be lower than the bottom of the
RRH.

The 1/2" RRH RF jumper transmits and receives RF signals between an RRH and an
antenna. A fixed-length RF jumper used by an RRH is 2 m (6.56 ft), 3 m (9.84 ft), 4 m
(13.12 ft), 6 m (19.68 ft), or 10 m (32.81 ft). A variable-length RF jumper used by an RRH
has a maximum length of 10 m (32.81 ft).

An RF jumper has DIN male connectors at both end:

one end of the RF jumper is connected to the ANT-TX/RXA or ANT-TX/RXB port at
the bottom of the RRH, and the other end is connected to the antenna.
• When the distance between an RRH and an antenna is greater than 10 m (32.81 ft),
one end of the RF jumper is connected to a feeder, and the other end is connected
to the antenna.
• If the customer prepares the RF jumper, the length of the RF jumper should be as

Procedure
1 Connect the DIN male connector at one end of the RRH RF jumper to the ANT port on
the RRH, and use a torque wrench to tighten the connector to 25 N•m (18.44 lb-ft.).

f On AC-powered electric railways, such as high speed railways, when leaky cables are
connected to RRHs installed in tunnels, high-voltage-resistance DC blocks must be
installed between RRH RF jumpers and the leaky cables to protect the RRHs against
damage.
2 Link the other end of the RF jumper to the external antenna system.
3 Waterproof the connectors of the RF jumper, referring to the section Waterproofing a
connector of the RF jumper:
4 If any of the antenna connectors are not used, waterproof metal caps must be installed.

• Wrap each layer of tape around the connector tightly and neatly, and ensure that
each layer of tape overlaps more than 50% of the preceding layer. Ensure that
neighboring layers are stuck to each other
• Ensure that the adhesive surface of the tape overlaps the lower layer
• When cutting off the cable ties, reserve a redundant length of 3 mm (0.12 in.) to 5
mm (0.2 in.)
The RF jumper cables must be labeled at both ends so they can be properly connected.
Procedure
1 Wrap three layers of waterproof tape on the connector, first from bottom up, then from
top down, and finally from bottom up.
Start wrapping the connector at a position 50 mm (1.97 in.) away below the bottom of
the connector to the top of the connector, first from bottom up, then from top down,
and finally from bottom up.
Cut off the redundant tape after three layers are wrapped. Wrap each layer of tape
around the connector tightly.

connect the AISG Multi-Wire Cable and AISG Extension Cable to the Remote Radio
Head (RRH).
When the distance between an RRH and the BBU is longer than 5 m (16.4 ft.), an AISG
multi-wire cable is not long enough to connect the RRH and the BBU. In this case, an
AISG extension cable is used to extend the AISG multi-wire cable for transmitting RS485
signals. The length of the AISG extension cable can be 1, 2, 5, or 10 m.
An AISG extension cable has a standard AISG male connector at one end and a
standard AISG female connector at the other end:

The RRH power cable is a -48 V DC cable. It feeds -48 V DC power to an RRH.

• The maximum distance between the power supply and the RRH is 35 m (115 ft)
with 4 mm2 cable. If an RRH power cable greater than 35 m (115 ft) is required, 6
mm2 or 10 mm2 cable can be used with a special adaptor kit that can be crimped
on to the power cable near the cabling cavity.
• If a power device provided by the customer is used, the recommended specification
of the circuit breaker on this power device is 15 A to 30 A.
There are three types of RRH power cables in terms of cross-sectional areas: 3.3 mm2
(0.005 in.2) (12 AWG) and 5.3 mm2 (0.008 in.2) (10 AWG) complying with North
American standards and 4 mm2 (0.006 in.2) complying with European standards.
A tool-less female connector (pressfit type) needs to be added to one end of the RRH
power cable and a corresponding terminal needs to be added to the other end based on
the requirements of the connector on the external power device.

1 Lower the pullers of two optical modules, insert one optical module into the SFP in

4 Close the cover plate of the RRH cabling cavity. Use an M5 torque screwdriver to
partially tighten the screws on the cover plate in the sequence shown in the following

The following information on Nokia supplied equipment is available from customer
representatives:
• Output power and antenna characteristic, if the product is equipped with an integral
antenna.
• A detailed description of at least one typical normal configuration, including antenna
system (feeders, connectors, combiners, antennas etc.), if the product is intended to
be used with external antennas.
• Limit distances for general public and occupational exposure. If the product is
intended for use with external antennas, limit distances shall be given for the given
typical system configurations.
• Information how to specify exposure levels and limit distances for any optional
system configuration not specified in detail.
• Information on how to install the equipment/system or the external antennas in order
to ensure that the separation between the radiating antenna and general public are
exceeding the maximum allowed distances.
Information on the methodology used for the determination of RF safety compliance
distances and exclusion zones, and the results of the compliance evaluation shall be
available for inspection by officials of the governing authorities.
Optical transmitters
We declares that the complies with the CENELEC standards EN 60825-1 Edition 1994
and its amendment 1 (2002) and amendment 2 (2001) and EN 60825-2 Edition 2004. It
is a Class I/1 laser optical fiber communication systems “product” under the IEC
classifications.

This product is designed to ensure that personnel operating the product are not
endangered by laser radiation during normal operation and fault conditions. This product
does not present a risk of eye injury because it is fully enclosed and does not contain
embedded lasers greater than Class I/1 unless otherwise noted.

Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified
herein may result in hazardous laser radiation exposure.
Do not view directly into the laser beam with optical instruments such as a fiber
microscope because viewing of laser emission in excess of Class 1 limits significantly
increases the risk of eye damage.
Never look into the end of an exposed fiber or an open connector as long as the optical
source is switched on.
Ensure that the optical source is switched off before disconnecting optical fiber
connectors.
