Herbal medicine on hypertension

Herbs can be found in a wide range of foods, drinks, and multivitamin
supplements .Understanding the health benefits of herbs, accepting that they are
natural goods rather than chemical items that might be detrimental to the body, and
the history of herbal medicine are all reasons for using them . Thai people consider
herbs to be useful to their health as medicine .People frequently use herbal medicine
in the hopes of improving their health.(Tangsuk 2021) Because of their low cost,
higher acceptability, and fewer side effects, herbal medicines are used by a large part
of the world's hypertensive population for primary health care. (Lanazuri et. al. 2017)

Hypertension is the most major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular,
cerebrovascular, and renal illnesses, all of which are among the world's leading
causes of morbidity and mortality. (Grant A. 2017).Somehow traditional medicine
use in hypertension and related conditions might have negative consequences,
including delayed treatment, increased disease severity or complications, drug
interactions, and poor adherence to allopathic drugs that are recognized to control
the disease.(Roediger R et. al. 2017).

The reason for this growing interest in and usage of plant-based remedies is because a
large percentage of hypertension patients do not react to modern therapeutic
medications. The cost of medication, side effects, accessibility, and availability of
pharmaceuticals are all factors in this equation. As a result, we believe it is necessary
to review the literature on the therapeutic effects of herbs and their separated
constituents in the treatment of hypertension, a common risk factor for CVDs. (Al
Disi 2016)Garlic is the most popular natural treatment used in conjunction with
blood pressure medications. Shortness of breath and cough, ulcers, diarrhea, knee
pains, and abdominal discomfort are all side effects of antihypertension combination
therapy with herbal medications and prescription drugs.(Azizah N 2020)

The use of herbal medicine in Indonnesia

In Indonesia, primary healthcare practices, particularly in rural regions, are critical.

While medicinal herbs are widely used in Indonesia, the country has made a
commitment to modern medicine-based healthcare by establishing universal health
coverage.(Rayuha et. al. 2020) Whether it's about the advantages, the manufacturing
method, the trouble of getting qualifying herbs, or the constituent components in
medicinal plants, indigenous knowledge of herbal medicine has never been properly
investigated. (Sumarni et. al 2019)

Herbal medicine has been used by Indonesians since the reign of the Mataram King.
This traditional Indonesian beverage, like Ayurveda in India and Zhongyi in China, has
become a source of pride.(Isregar 2020)In Indonesia, jamu is a traditional herbal
medication. Jamu is used by the lmajority of Indonesians, particularly in Java. Plant-
based medications are traditional medicines.(Fitriana et. al. 2018)

The scientific literature on Java and the practice of jamu is reviewed, and the
Javanese concept of rasa is introduced as a lens for the intimate ways that humans
and plants, as open bodies of winds and flows, might interact.(Laplante 2016).
Despite this, it is one of the top four provinces in terms of users of herbal medicine
(jamu). West Java is an intriguing topic to study in terms of whether herbal medicine
use patterns alter when a healthcare service under the UHC system becomes
available, due to the large number of medicinal users and JKN members.(Rayuha et.
al. 200)

Chinese herbal medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to treat diseases for thousands of years in
Asian countries, and it is an important aspect of basic health care.(Zhou 2016).From antiquity,
Chinese herbal therapy has been widely used in various nations, particularly in China; yet, the
methods by which herbal medicine prevents and treats cardiovascular problems are unclear. We
compare and contrast the characteristics of Chinese herbal medicine and western medicine in
this review.(Liu C & Huang Y. 2016)

Furthermore, clinical decision making and treatment success are dependent on CHM
customised intervention design, patients' preferences and concerns, and
practitioners' experience.( Lyu S. et. Al. 2022) Chinese herbal medicine has evolved
its own theories and treatment procedures for amenorrhea caused by antipsychotic
medications.( Liu L. et al. 2022) Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is not only widely
used in Asian countries, but it has also developed a steady global market.(Zhou X. et.
Al.2019)
