NARRATIVE ON THE REMEDIATION AND INTERVENTION CONDUCTED

IN ARALING PANLUPUNAN 8
Even with talented educators and solid plans, there will always be students who
do not fully understand a concept the first time they learn it. Without addressing
those gaps in knowledge, students are unable to form the foundation needed for
future success. Instead of ignoring these gaps, teachers usually do an immediate
remediation or reteaching to address the area of weakness. If that is not
successful, an intervention is necessary.
We as teachers engage in remediation strategies as a normal part of their
teaching to quickly address any misunderstandings of a concept. It is a more
formal process and usually entails the involvement of fellow teachers and parents
in order that a student may fully grasp the concept or the objective of the topic.
An intervention plan is implemented and reviewed at regular intervals with the
goal being too quickly address the problem and have the student stay on track in
their core curriculum.
As COVID-19 has redefined what it means to be “in the classroom”, many
teachers are struggling with how to conduct intervention and remediation
through remote or distance learning. One key to successful reteaching is utilizing
parents or guardians as partners in the process – especially when trying to
personalize learning for our youngest students. It is important for teachers to lead
the direct instruction of a topic through their lesson plan.
In my case, I prefer to have the remediation and intervention to struggling
students with face-to-face interaction. I drafted a letter to our principal asking for
an approval regarding the matter and the latter approved it.
Last March 25 to May 27, 2022, I started to call up students especially those who
barely meet the learning objectives to undergo a remediation and intervention
particularly in Araling Panlipunan 8. It was a whole day activity where students
are asked to answer the given activity sheets. Part of the requirements in the
actual process were the parents’ consent, vaccination cards, and any activity
related things like bond papers, scissors, paste, folders and crayons.
The whole day activity duration was very inspiring because the learners were able
to do the given task in a positive way and they are all responding and grasp the
concept. With the fruitful endeavor they have had, they obtained a mark higher
than what they expected thus, a successful remediation and intervention process
were taking place in order.
