REMEDIAL AND ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES IN MATHEMATICS

GRADE LEVEL: MATHEMATICS 5

LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
 Find the missing term in a pair of equivalent ratios
 Defines and describe a proportion
 Recognizes when two quantities are in direct proportion

I. ACTIVITY:

Directions: Write YES if the pair of ratios form a proportion and NO if they
are not..
1). 3/4 , 6/11
2). 9/10, 1/4
3). 15:18 = 10:16
4). 4 : 5 = 16 : 20
5). 8: 16 = 4 : 8

II. CONCEPT/s:

Mrs. Santos bought 9 different kind of pastries for P324.00. At the same price, how
much will she pay for 15 different kind of pastries?

To solve this problem, write equal ratios.

Let n be the price of 15 different kind of pastries
9_ = 15
324 n

To solve the problem of Mrs. Reyes:

9_ = 15
324 n

9 x n = 324 x 15
9 n = 4860
9n_ = 4860
9 9
n = 540

Therefore, she has to pay P540.00 for 15 different kind of pastries.

When two ratios are equal, a proportion is formed.

A Proportion is a statement of equality between two ratios. Each part of a proportion is

a term. The first and the last terms are called extremes while the second and the third
terms are called means.

III. EVALUATION:

A. Determine whether each is a proportion or not. Write YES or NO

__________ 1. 2/3 and 4/6

__________ 2. 4/5 and 8/9

__________ 3. 3/7 and 4/8

__________ 4. 12/15 and 4/8

__________ 5. 2/6 and 4/10

B. Solve each proportion.

1. 5_ = 35
12 n

2. 39_ = n
2 4

3. 27_ = 9
n 5

4. n_ = 24
4 6

5. 3_ = 24
n 5.6
