Conjecture 1: A certain percent of an even number will always

result to even number when the last digit of the percent is an

odd number.

Proving Conjecture: A certain percent of an even number will

always result to even number when the last digit of the percent
is an odd number.

9% of 88 is 7.92

37% of 220 is 81.4

51% of 378 is 192.78

43% of 642 is 276.6

73% of 1360 is 992.8

Threshold method

There are certain thresholds in percentages which we can

easily determine its value by remembering these simple tips:

TIP #1. To get 1% of a number, move its decimal point to two

places into the left.

TIP #2. To get 5% of a number, divide the number by 2 and

move its decimal point to one place into the left

TIP #3. To get 10% of a number, move its decimal point to

one place into the left.

TIP #4. To get 50% of a number, divide it by 2.

In answering a particular percentage problem, we will break

down the percent into smaller thresholds to the point where we
can be able to identify each of its value with ease and simply
add them up together to get the answer. We will show you three
basic steps on how to demonstrate this trick in answering the
following percentage problems.
EXAMPLE: What is 73% of 1360?

Step 1: Break down the percent into smaller thresholds

 50% of 1360
 20% of 1360
 3% of 1360

Step 2: Determine the value of the number given its percents

 50% of 1360=(1360÷2)= 680

 20% of 1360= (136+136)= 272
 3% of 1360= (13.6+13.6+13.6)= 40.8

Step 3: Add the results

 680+272+40.8=992.8

PERCENT NUMBER ANSWER

33% 768 253.44

47% 1340 629.8

69% 1564 1079.16

55% 2458 1351.9

85% 3122 2653.7

Conjecture 2: A certain percent of an even number is not always
an even number when the last digit of the percent is an odd
number.

Proving Conjecture: A certain percent of an even number is not

always an even number when the last digit of the percent is an
odd number.

•If getting the certain percent of an composite number when the

last digit of the percent ends in 5, then the result is an odd
number.

EXAMPLE: What is 55% of 940?

Step 1: Break down the percent into smaller thresholds

 50% of 940
 5% of 940

Step 2: Determine the value of the number given its percents

 50% of 1280=470
 5% of 1280=47

Step 3: Add the results

 470+47=517

Conjecture 3: The 25%, 50% and 75% of any prime numbers will give
a result where the last digit is always 5.

PERCENT NUMBER ANSWER

25% 149 37.25

25% 293 73.25

50% 569 284.5

50% 673 336.5

75% 829 621.75

75% 967 725.25

EXAMPLE: What is 75% of 1193?

Step 1: Break down the percent into smaller thresholds

 50% of 1193
 20% of 1193
 5% of 1193

Step 2: Determine the value of the number given its percents

 50% of 1193= 596.5

 20% of 1193=(119.3+119.3)=238.6
 5% of 1193= 59.65

Step 3: Add the results

 596.5+238.6+59.65=894.75
