The chart below shows the annual number of rentals and sales (in various formats) of films

from a particular store between 2002 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The bar chart compares a store’s rentals and sales in different film formats, including rentals, VHS sales,
DVD sales, and Blu-ray sales over a period of 10 years.

Overall, DVD was the most popular and profitable film format of the store during the research period. It
is also noticeable that the store experienced a constant fall in the yearly number of rentals which had
been very popular in the initial years of the period.

In the year 2002, most of the store’s films were rented, at nearly 190,000 rentals. This was more than
three times higher than that of DVD sales, at just under 50,000 sales. There were no figures for Blu-ray
sales at this time. Over the next 5 years, DVD sales constantly grew and became the most popular film
format of the store, with its figure seeing a fourfold increase, reaching more than 200,000 sales. On the
contrary, the figure for rentals dropped significantly to only nearly 130,000. At the same time, VHS was
no longer available at the store. Instead, it brought to customers a new film format, Blu-ray,
accumulating only 2000 sales in 2007.

In 2011, DVD, despite a slight fall in the number of sales, was still the most profitable film format of the
store, at 180,000 sales. Meanwhile, the figure for rentals hit its bottom, falling to around 60,000. By
contrast, Blu-ray gradually increased in its sales, with figure rising to 15,000 sales.
