DR. SEUSS

The author Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, wrote over 40 books for children. Among his most
famous are The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham.

In 1954, a report (1) was published in Life magazine on the poor reading ability of America’s children. It concluded
that children (2) were not reading well because most books were boring and didn’t help children learn to read.
Geisel’s publisher made up a list of 250 key words for learners. Nine months later, Geisel completed The Cat in the
Hat. He had (3) reached a point of using 236 of those words. The book turned (4) out to be a major success, thanks
to its colorful characters and simple language. From then on, Dr. Seuss went from strength to strength as an author.
In 1960, he wrote Green Eggs and Ham, which became one of the best-selling books of all time.

Dr. Seuss’s books remain popular with children and parents (5)all over the world. They have (6) been translated
into 20 languages and have sold over 600 million copies. Dr. Seuss received many prizes (7)of in recognition of his

The Beatles were one of the most successful bands in history. In the 1960s,
when they were just starting out, they were nervous about meeting Brian Epstein,
