ACTIVITY 2
FORMS OF ART
At the end of the session, you will be capable of:
Identifying the forms of art.
Enumerate the mediums of each art form.
Exploring art creation.
Developing insights about the diversity and uniqueness of the arts.

Art is all around. In comes in many forms. If we will just open our senses and focus on our
environment, we will see the beauty in everything. It is innate in us to desire for harmony and
unity. We like to see things that are in order. Harmonious sounds provide us with relaxation.
Reading enriches our mind. A well-designed house gives us a feeling of security and comfort. A
good play enables us to contemplate on our own existence. Watching dancers expertly execute
movements leave us in awe about how man can masterfully use the body in its maximum
potential. The arts can also enrich our understanding of history and culture. There are a lot more
that we can benefit from the arts.

The lesson will enable you to recall the forms of art which you have extensively studied in your
basic education. I do hope that you will actively engage in this lesson and enjoy the experience
as we enrich our knowledge about the arts.

C. Testing the Gear: “I Can Do This!”

Exploration with Art: What will happen if the arts are combined? What would be its resulting
output? The video that you will watch is an example of an Interactive Projection Dance. This is
an example of arts integration. It uses literature, dance, music, visual art and theater.

What is Projection Mapping?

https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/10527-projection-mapping-what-is-
it.htmlhttps://www.businessnewsdaily.com/10527-projection-mapping-what-is-it.html

Projection mapping is a video projection technology in

which video is mapped onto a surface, turning common
objects – such as buildings, runways, stages and even water
– into interactive displays. These surfaces become a canvas,
with graphics being projected onto a surface, playing off of
the surface’s shape and textures to create a delightful
experience of light and illusion.

How is projection mapping done?

Select your canvas. The first step in projection
mapping is to choose your canvas. This can be anything
that allows your projection to come to life. People tend to
choose canvases such as stages, buildings and
translucent backdrops.
Plan the lighting. Once you have selected your canvas,
you will need to use software to calculate the level of
brightness, pixel density and shadows, as well as create
the metrics to be used for the projection.
Develop content. From there, you will design the
template for projection and animate the projection to
create a concrete version of the visual story you are
seeking to tell.
Set up. Once you have completed the development of
the projection, it is time to set things up. To do so, you go
to the location and use an alignment grid to ensure your
projection will be clean and seamless.
Finalize the presentation. Lastly, you will finalize your
presentation by making the final tweaks to your content
and projection.

ACTIVITY 2
FORMS OF ART

Thinking out Loud!

After watching the video, “The Cheshire Cat” by Ryan Talbot, write an expository essay on arts integration.

Incredible, impressive, and awesome- are the three words that describe my
amazement at Ryan Talbot's 'The Cheshire Cat' video projection.

Incredible. It is impossible to believe that all of the visuals from the video
projection were made by a teenager at the time it was recorded. It is underrated
to consider such play for school purposes. I think it is already for professional
theater play level since it has the quality for standard video projection
performance and visual effects are on the higher quality level. Truly creating
such high-quality art has no age.

Impressive. Likewise, the interactive performance of the dancer and the video
projection is on time. It is mentioned that choreography, video effects, and
projections are originally made by the people involved in the presentation. It is
commendable that to better acknowledge and enhance everyone's skill in such
art forms, it is better to come up with our original idea and concept to visualize
and perform this.

Awesome. I believe the presentation utilized the use of video projection and the
interactive performance of the dancer to execute and visualize the scenes from
the play. Hence, the use of digital technology to have this kind of 'art' is
impeccable which resulted in a better outcome of the presentation. It is truly
pleasing to the eye of the audience.

I therefore conclude, that, technologies had created the field of arts to be more
complex and dynamically evolved throughout the years. Hence, teenagers like
Ryan can do this kind of massive project to have the best quality- meaning, age
doesn't matter when we are into art. What matters most is that we can break
boundaries as long as we are able to maximize our skills and talent so that we
can share it with others.

ACTIVITY 2
FORMS OF ART
D. Taking the Plunge: “Challenge Accepted!”

Exploration with Art: Origami is the art of paper folding. Its name was derived from the Japanese
words ori (“folding”) and kami (”paper”). Traditional origami consists of folding a single sheet of
square paper (often with a colored side) into a sculpture without cutting, gluing, taping, or even
marking it. Making origami has educational benefits for both children and adults because
origami helps in the development of eye hand coordination, fine motor skills, sequencing skills,
math reasoning, spatial skills, memory, and mental concentration.

Task: Choose an origami project and post a picture of it here.

Talk about your Origami project

I’ve chosen an origami paper crane as my origami project. Because I’ve read from
the internet it symbolizes. According to Japanese tradition/culture, it symbolizes
honor, good fortune, loyalty, and longevity. These formidable qualities are why the
Japanese believed that anyone who had the patience and perseverance to fold 1,000
origami cranes would be granted good fortune and a request. Aside from it being
easy to fold this formation, I am fond of birds. I appreciate the presence of birds in
our sky, trees, and everywhere– birds are significant ecological aspects of natural
systems. They bring significant benefits to people by controlling insects– pests that
eat our plants, rodents, pollinating plants– plant reproduction, and dispersing seeds.
Although it is obvious and I don’t come up with a deeper meaning for my work, what
is important for me is that I acknowledge the significance of birds through this art
form.

FORMS OF ART
E. Learning Anew: “A Bit Wiser”

Reflection is part of a learning process and as such this part encourages you to write what you
have realized or learned from the lesson.

1. Write about your idea about art.

2. Share your experience about art exploration.
3. Identify an art form that you think interest you the most and why.

What I just learn from this activity is that art is a part of our lives. Being able to
identify and understand the concept of art make us creative thinker in our own way
and perspective. There are different commendable art forms that have already been
discovered and I believe this gives me an idea that art in any form can be
dynamically improved. If we are skillful and have an optimistic view of visualizing our
talent, we are able to make it physically perfect– the art of reality.

During my art exploration, It made me realize that creating such examples of

practical activities is fun and exciting. Although this confused me because I’m a first-
time learner of origami paper cranes– it doesn’t give me any feeling to give up on
this activity. I tried multiple times just to make my origami perfect and simple– even
make three copies of it. Meanwhile, upon watching the video presentation about
video projection, I realized that technology now plays a vital role in creating
pleasable-to-eye art visualization. Now, in identifying the mediums of arts activity–
focusing on architecture, I’ve also realized that the actual formation of art like in
architecture remarks me that ‘we cannot judge a book by its cover’, this simply
means that the materials used in different example infrastructure are way different
from ordinary construction of buildings– examples utilize the use of steel, woods,
glass, and concrete panels. We can make art in different materials and mediums we
wanted.

Lastly, the art form that grabbed my attention is the video projection. Under video
projection presentation are other art forms like dancing– it makes the presentation
to be interactive with visual effects and the person performing the dancing. I am
relatable because I have also an interest in video editing although not as skillful as
Ryan, I am somehow fond of exploring video effects as I can use them for future
projects maybe. Overall it is amazing for me that art brings limitless possibilities
when technology is applied.
