Giant Water Lilies. In the homily, Fr.

Reginald mentioned that “Fire
destroys others for itself. It is the
nature of fire to consume anything it
touches in order to make its flame
greater.” Yes, this is true. “There are
people who are like fire, they
consume others to make themselves

better, and they destroy others to
make themselves greater” he added. Just like the Giant Water Lilies, they can be considered as monsters
by other plants. As it dominates the surface, it clears space for itself by wielding one of its buds, like a
club. As the leaf of the giant water lily blooms, it expands by over 20cm long a day and eventually
measures more than two meters across. As each one reaches the surface and expands, more and more
light is taken from those plants that are trying to grow beneath. Competitors are pushed aside. Some
are crushed or skewered. Eventually, its immense leaves pressed its margins against one another, totally
cutting off the light from the plants beneath them. Victory is total for these giant water lilies. As one
disciple, follower, student in a Catholic School, a Christian, and a human being, we must instill and
embody contentment in life. We must not trample others just for fame or popularity, we must not
destroy others to be considered a genius. We must not be like the giant water lily nor like the fire does,

that destroy others for one’s self. As Fr. Reginald said, “God is not like that kind of fire when He revealed
Himself to Moses through the burning bush. He touches us not to consume us but to save us. He
touches us not to destroy us but to make us better.” With this, we must be good to others, we must not
take the chances, opportunities and the blessings for ourselves. For there is a saying that goes like this,
“Sharing is caring,” and “It’s better to give than to receive.”
