Services 2-stroke Issue 1, 03.03.2011

Adjustment of WECS-9520 At your convenience

parameters Summary
This document describes changes of the
WECS-9520 parameter values according
Information to all Owners and Operators of to the Technical Bulletin RT-104, Issue 1,
Wärtsilä RT-flex96C-B engines with dated 23.02.2011 and provides the
WECS-9520 software version 32-082 instruction for the parameter adjustment
by the “flexAdjust tool”.

Current situation
Operation experience with WECS-9520
system has shown that some parameter
values are not ideal for the following
cases:
• Fuel quantity piston start speed
• Auto restart function
• Minimum fuel injection time

Solution
Adjust values of respective parameters in
the WECS-9520 system on engines in
service by means of the “flexAdjust tool” in
order to improve the performance of the
engine and the WECS-9520 system.
A respective parameter set is available for
each installation.

Next steps
Execute “flexAdjust” according to this
instruction and send a feedback report to

Introduction
This instruction describes how use the flexAdjust tool for changing the values of
the following parameters:

• Fuel quantity piston start speed

PAR_INJ_QTY_PIST_SPEED_START to be set to 2.8 %/ms.

• Auto restart function

PAR_AUTO_RESTART to be set to 0 (zero) the function is then disabled

• Minimum fuel injection time

PAR_INJ_TIME_MIN_LIMIT to be set to 6 ms

Remark:
For more information please read the related topics in the Technical Bulletin
RT-104, Issue 1, dated 23.02.2011.

Adjustment of parameters with flexAdjust tool

Note:
Before executing the flexAdjust tool the following conditions must be fulfilled:
• Engine stopped
• WECS-9520 system is powered on
• flexView program is closed, i.e. not running

Work procedure

1. Extract the “flexAdjust.mdb” file (3) from the delivered

“flexAdjust_WECS_82_RT_104_1_I_10.zip” to the folder:
“C:\flexView9520\[plant]\flexAdjust” (1), see Figure 1

Note:
The content of this zip file can only be applied to any RT-flex96C-B engine with
WECS-9520 control system.

2. Start the already existing “flexAdjust9520.exe” (2) in the same folder:

“C:\flexView9520\[plant]\flexAdjust”

Remark:
The name of the plant consists of the shipyard abbreviation and the hull number
of the vessel, e.g. HHI1700, OSS214, etc.

5. Press the button “Read Values” (5) at the bottom of the flexAdjust window,
see Figure 4

6. Check the box “Show Only Differences” (4), see Figure 4

Note:
If the new value of the adjusting parameter equals to the current value in the
WECS-9520, it will not be shown in the list of the flexAdjust window.

Note:
On the flexView SW-Info card will be an indication by a red or blue checkmark (1)
that global and commissioning parameters have been changed. That is a normal
situation after a parameter change with the flexAdjust tool, see Figure 6. To
correct these CRC values, they have to be adjusted according to the instruction
in the next chapter.

Remark:
First CRC values (1) of the parameters are calculated during software initial
configuration and are stored in the “Datacontainer”. Current CRC values (2) are
calculated cyclically by the WECS-9520 application program. Current CRC
values are constantly being checked with the First CRC values. In case of a
difference between the two CRC values, a red or blue checkmark (3) is
displayed, see Figure 9.

5. Set the correct values of CRC by means of “Shift” and “Arrow up” or “Arrow
down”, see Figure 10

Note:
For the parameter access a login menu pops up when you try to change a value
with “Shift” and “Arrow up” or “Arrow down” keys. The password is “flexView”.
See chapter 7.1 of the fV-Operator Manual.
