Subject: EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE
Grade & Section: Grade 11
Date:
Time Allotment: 1 hour
Content/Topic: ORIGIN AND STRUCTURE OF THE EARTH
Content Standards: The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
1. the formation of the universe
Performance Standards: The learners shall be able to:

Learning Competencies: The learners:

1. state the different hypothesis explaining the origin of the universe. S11/12ES-
Ia-e-1
I. Specific Learning Outcomes: At the end of this lesson, the learners must be able to:
1. State and identify the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the
universe.
2. formulate own theory about the origin of the universe.

III. Teaching Strategies/Procedures:
ACTIVITY
A. Preparation
 The learners will clean the room.
 A chosen learner leads a prayer.
 Checking of Attendance/Announcements
B. Introduction/Review
The teacher will introduce the following learning objectives and important terms
1. state the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe.
2. formulate own theory about the origin of the universe.
The teacher will Introduce the list of important terms that learners will encounter.
1. Baryonic matter - "ordinary" matter consisting of protons, electrons, and neutrons that comprises
atoms, planets, stars, galaxies, and other bodies .
2. Dark matter - matter that has gravity but does not emit light.
3. Dark Energy - a source of anti-gravity; a force that counteracts gravity and causes the universe to expand.
4. Protostar - an early stage in the formation of a star resulting from the gravitational collapse of gases.
5. Thermonuclear reaction - a nuclear fusion reaction responsible for the energy produced by stars.
6. Main Sequence Stars - stars that fuse hydrogen atoms to form helium atoms in their cores; outward
pressure resulting from nuclear fusion is balanced by gravitational forces
7. Light years - the distance light can travel in a year; a unit of length used to measure astronomical distance
C. Motivation
The teacher will connect the lesson to a real-life problem or question.
1. Tell the learners that the Universe is at least 13.8 billion of years old and the Earth/Solar System at least
4.5-4.6 billions of years old. But how large exactly is a billion? Ask the learners how long will it take
them to spend 1 billion pesos if they spend 1 peso per second.
• 1 billion/(60 s/min*60 min/hr*24 hr/day*365days/year)
• ~32 years
• How long is 13.8 billion years?
2. Show learners the series of photographs as follows:

Activity Proper 1
The teacher will show video clip about different hypothesis explaining the origin of the universe.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION
- Big Bang Theory - all of the energy and matter of the universe were compressed into hot and dense state.
About 13. 7 billion years our universe began as a cataclysmic explosion which continued to expand, cool, and
evolve to its current state. Temperature decreased sufficiently to allow clumps of matter to collect. Theses
materials formed the first nebulae, which evolved into the first stars and galaxies. Our sun and planetary system
were formed 5 billion later.
- Creationist Theory - states that God, the Supreme Being created the whole universe out of nothing.
- Oscillating Universe Theory -was proposed by a Russian-born US cosmologist George Gamow who helped
explain the Big Bang Theory. He said that the expansion of the universe will eventually come to a halt then it
collapses up to the time that the universe will return to its original form and another Big Bang will occur. This
process will happen as a cycle.
- Steady-State Theory - states that the universe has always been the same since the beginning and will
remain in its present state until eternity.
- Cosmic Inflation Theory - according to this theory the early universe was a rapidly expanding bubble of pure
vacuum energy. It did not
ABSTRACTION/GENERALIZATION
The teacher will ask questions
A. What are the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe?
Ans. - Big Bang Theory
- Creationist Theory
- Oscillating Universe Theory
- Steady-State Theory
- Cosmic Inflation Theory
APPLICATION
Formulate your own theory about the origin of the universe.

E. Assessment Identification
1. The study of the entire universe.
2. The widely accepted theory about the origin of the universe.
3.This theory states that the universe has always been the same and will continue to be the
same forever.
4.This theory suggests that the universe expanded from a small ball and is still expanding.
5. The other term for universe.

Enumerate the different hypotheses and state the expaination of the origin of the Universe.
F. Agreement / Research on the other theories about the origin of the universe. Summarize their main
Assignment assumptions.
