• The unit will enable you:
• Critically evaluate the qualities of leadership and entrepreneurship
required to effectively operate a range of business organisations.
• To analyse the effectiveness of operations and functions within
organisations including the leadership and management of
individuals, teams and stakeholders in all forms of business
ventures;
• To develop analytical skills appropriate to the themes, ideas and
concepts within the unit;
• To critically consider the internal and external operating
environments relevant to small business examples and situations;
• To identify a business idea and substantiate it with rigorous
Aims and Relevance research and logical evaluation;
• Demonstrate the appropriate competencies required for the
implementation of an innovative idea;
• Use methods and techniques for you to be able to evaluate your
own strengths and weaknesses as potential entrepreneurs and
leaders.
• This unit introduces students to the characteristics and skills that
underpin Entrepreneurial leadership.
• Using scholarly literature and case studies this unit discusses how
this form of leadership is applied in difference contexts, from family
businesses to corporates and start up-firms.

Critically evaluate the skills and attributes required in the leadership, operation and
management of entrepreneurial organisations whilst emphasising the impact of
diversity in the quality decision-making

Approach to Learning
The unit is delivered in a combination of lecture and seminar activity, including group work
analysis of real case studies. The learning approach requires you to evaluate your own
development as leaders and your entrepreneurial attributes through self-assessment exercises
and reflection. The unit is challenging and provides opportunities to explore creative
approaches to establishing a new business idea, including presenting ideas at a peer to peer
Dragons Den.

Learner Development
This Unit particularly focuses on the development of your abilities in the following areas:
You will work in groups during seminar and lecture activities. You will be
encouraged to develop your skills in collaborative group work. Leadership
needs to be understood in the context of a team-based work

environment. The seminars provide opportunities for formative group
work where you reflect on leadership styles both yours and other
students’ approaches and understandings.
To develop skills that are highly valued in any business enterprise and

Threshold Expectations
In order to pass Assessment 1 you will need to :
Show evidence of relevant topic research using sources listed in the reading list
Evidence undertaking the GET test and one other self-assessment exercise
Provide at least two examples to evidence your analysis of your results
Demonstrate understanding of how certain traits and attributes add value to business
using examples
Present your work as a formal report and include references in Harvard style within the
text and in the reference list.
Provide evidence of relevant research and learning that supports the development of the
business idea using sources listed in the reading list
Develop a formal report with headings in a business plan style using Harvard referencing
