IF THE SAVIOR STOOD BESIDE ME HOMEWARD BOUND

If the savior stood beside me In the quiet misty morning

Would I do the things I do? When the moon has gone to bed,
Would I think of His commandments and try harder to be true? When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red,
Would I follow his example?
Would I live more righteously if I could see the Savior standing nigh When the summer's ceased its gleaming
Watching over me? When the corn is past its prime,
When adventures lost its meaning
If the Savior stood beside me I'll be homeward bound in time
Would I say the things I say?
Would my words be true and kind if he were never far away? Bind me not to the pasture
Would I try to share the gospel? Chain me not to the plow
Would I speak more reverently if I could see the Savior standing Set me free to find my calling
nigh And I'll return to you somehow
Watching over me?
If you find it's me, you're missing
If the Savior stood beside me, would my thoughts be clean and If you're hoping I'll return,
pure? To your thoughts, I'll soon be listening, in the road, I'll stop and turn
Would his presence give me strength and hope and courage to
endure? Then the wind will set me racing
Would his counsel guide my actions? As my journey nears its end
Would I choose more worthily if I could see the Savior standing nigh And the path I'll be retracing
Watching over me? When I'm homeward bound again

He is always near me, though I do not see him there Bind me not to the pasture
And because he loves me dearly Chain me not to the plow
I am in his watchful care Set me free to find my calling
So I'll be the kind of person that I know I'd like to be And I'll return to you somehow
If I could see the Savior standing nigh watching over me
In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
I’ll be homeward bound again.
