PROJECT HEALTH DOK EPISODE 2

Episode 2 is entitled “The HIV 101” discussed by discussed by Mr. Efren L.

Chanliongco, Jr, the Health Education and Promotion Officer III of Department of
Health. Episode 2 focused on the difference of HIV and AIDS; on how to avoid it;
what are the laws on HIV and AIDS; and how to address the stereotypes on
LGBTQ+ community on being carriers of HIV.
The speaker elaborated the difference between Human Immunodeficiency
Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). He also presented
the summary of HIV diagnoses and deaths for January to March 2020 in which
priority regions and province are National Capital Region (NCR), Region 4A, Region
3, and Cebu Province and the most affected population were ages 25-34 y/o male
comprising 94% of the infected population.
He discussed on how to acquire HIV such as having unprotected sex;
transfused with blood or share contaminated needles and syringes; and person living
with HIV. He also presented the four (4) principles of HIV transmission: exit, survival,
sufficiency, and entry. He emphasized that a person’s HIV status can only be
determined through HIV testing such as Antigen and Antibody testing.
He reminded the ways on how to protect ourselves from HIV by following the
ABCDE acronym: A for Abstain from having sex; B for Be mutually faithful with your
partner; C for Correct and Consistent use of Condoms; D for Don’t use drugs or
Don’t share needles and syringes; and E for Education and Early detection.
Finally, he presented the different ways on what can we do about stigma:
PROTECT, INCLUDE, EDUCATE and EMPOWER.
