IV. PROCEDURES:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson(Elicit)
Sing this song to the tune of “Are You Sleeping”.
Earth is round
Earth is big
It’s our home (2x)
Let us keep it clean (2x)
To show our love.(2)
Put a check (/) on the blank that tells about the song and a cross (X) if not.
_____ 1. The Earth is our home.
_____ 2. ¾ of the Earth is land.
_____ 3. Air is not part of the Earth.
_____ 4. Keeping the Earth clean is showing our love.
_____ 5. Land , air and water are parts of the Earth.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Engage)
Land, water and air are the parts of the Earth. They are important to us.
They are Earth’s resources. These give us with all the things that we need in
order to live.
For this week you will learn the importance of land, water, and air as
resource of life.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson (Engage)
If you look around outdoors, you would see that most of the land part of
the Earth is covered with soil. Most plants grow on soil. Soil is important. It
has so many uses.
Besides soil, water is also everywhere around you. Do you still remember
when you were in grade one you learned that water covered almost
three- fourths of the Earth’s surface? Like soil, water is also important. It has
so many uses.
Air is all around us. It is a mixture of several gases. It is made up of
nitrogen, oxygen and combination of other gases. Air is important. It has so
many uses.

E. Developing mastery(Explain)
*Water
Water is essential to life. It regulates body processes of humans and animals.
It helps plants perform the process of photosynthesis.
Water is used for watering plants, cleaning and washing purposes, for
transporting goods and people, and for recreational activities such as sailing,
water skiing, swimming, and fishing. Most importantly, water serves as habitat
for aquatic and marine plants and animals.
Water is also a source of electricity. Stored water in dams provides energy to
run turbines and generators in hydroelectric power plants.
Water dissolves almost any material. It is a part of our food preparations. You
cannot cook anything without water. Cleaning the house, washing clothes,
and taking a bath cannot be done without water.
Water is also used to put out fires.
*Land
Land resource is important because humans not only live but also perform all
economic activities on land. Besides, land also supports wildlife, natural
vegetation, transport and communication activities.
Land has many uses. People build their house on land.
Farmers grow their crops on land. It is also where farm animals live and graze.
Land is a natural resource. People get many raw materials from land.
Land is a source of energy. Energy can be obtained from the heat deep
within the Earth. This form of energy is called geothermal energy.
The five most uses of land are recreational, transport, agricultural , residential,
and commercial.
*Air
No living organism can survive long without air. Oxygen is needed by humans
and animals to perform bodily processes. Carbon dioxide, which is also present
in the air, is taken by plants as they undergo photosynthesis.
Moving air or wind brings about the different weather conditions. It also
creates various forms of recreation such as kite flying and sailing.
Wind can generate electricity. In Ilocos region, there is a wind farm that
supplies several communities with electricity. In a wind farm, big vanes (called
sails) are used to run turbines and generators.
In Netherlands, windmills are used to irrigate farms. The rotating motion of the
windmill runs machines that obtain freshwater from a source.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living(Elaborate)
Draw and color two ways for each by which you use water, land and air.
I. Evaluating learning(Evaluate)
I. Land, water, and air are important resources. Give 3 uses for each resources.
