ACTIVITY NO. 1.2

Directions: Think of three naturally-occurring objects which display pattern and surf the
internet to study the reasons and benefits of the occurrences of those patterns in those
objects or organisms. Use the template below for each of the object. Remember: DO
NOT COPY PASTE from the internet.

Name: Starfish
Pattern: Golden Ratio- pentagon, the regular shape of the starfish
Reason/Benefit of having pattern: Starfish usually have 5 sections that helps them to
move and feed themselves, and also this means that they don’t have the left and right
half, only the top and bottom side.
Name: Snowflakes
Pattern: Symmetry- as snowflakes divides it usually make an identical image/piece
Reason/Benefit of having pattern: Snowflakes are formed by crystallization that
creates a six-sided snowflake, because they reflect the internal order of the crystal’s
water molecule.

Name: Lightning
Pattern: Fractal- the thunder bolts are repeating sound
Reason/Benefit of having pattern: The lightning has 3D space which means that the
thunder’s bolt sound that reaches our ears are a corresponding fractal pattern.
