Activity 1.2

Directions: Think of three naturally occurring objects which display pattern and surf the
internet to study the reasons and benefits of the occurrences of those patterns in those
objects or organisms. Use the template below for each of the object. Remember: DO
NOT COPY PASTE from the internet.
Name: Honeycomb

Pattern: It’s a hexagonal and often columnar that is shaped like a prism wax cells.

Reason/Benefit of having pattern: It is made by the bees inside a beehive to fill it with
honey and pollen. It is the best shape to store the huge amount of the bee’s honey as
long as using the least amount of wax to create the formation.

Name: Giraffe

Pattern: Its pattern has different color and shape and sometimes it changes.

Reason/Benefit of having pattern: It helps them to disguise or to mix with their


surroundings. As the blood roam nearest to the outside of the skin, it helps the giraffe’s
body to circulate the heat.

Name: Sunflower

Pattern: It has two sets of curves and there is a seed at the middle to create a fixed
angle from each other to produce a spiral.

Reason/Benefit of having pattern: The spiral is filled with a sunflower floret to


increase the capability to get the sunlight for the sunflower itself.
