Introduction to ANSYS Q3D Extractor

Example – Coplanar Waveguide Customer Training Material

• Coplanar Waveguide
– The coplanar waveguide (CPW) example is intended to show you how to create, simulate, and analyze this type of
structure using the Ansoft 2D Extractor Design Environment.
– The CPW configuration is used extensively in on-chip applications and surface mount components. The following
illustration details the passive device you will be creating
creating.

Ground1 and Ground2 Width= 0.3425

Ground1 Trace Gap Ground2 Trace Width= 0.24mm

Trace and Ground Thickness= 0.01mm
Gap= 0.0375mm
Dielectric and Plane Width= 1.0mm
Substrate
Dielectric= FR4
εr= 4.4
Dielectric Height= 0.2mm
Length = 1.0mm

– Ground Planes
• We will assume that the side ground planes are electrically connected (i
(i.e.
e are at the same potential) and will
group them accordingly.
