A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes the following:

1. GRP ladders for water tanks.

2. GRP safety cages.

1.3 DEFINITION

A. GRP: Glass-reinforced plastic

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Indicate composition and properties of
used GRP resins, type of stainless steel embedded or inserted hardawre and anchors, test
loads of ladder and installation details.

B. Product Data: For fixation fasteners.

C. Samples: Submit one cut sample of GRP ladder to indicate side bars, anchoring flanges and
two ladder rungs.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Work specified in this Section is to be executed only by an

established manufacturer, specialised in the manufacture of architectural GRP components
and assemblies for at least five (5) years, and who possesses adequate plant, equipment,
skilled tradesmen and who is known to have executed satisfactorily the manufacture and
installation of projects similar in scope and nature.

2. Siteserve, KSA.
3. International Gratings, Inc; Fiberglass Ladders.
4. IKG Idustries

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Gel Coat: Polyester neo pentyl glycol type, to obtain optimum processing and service
qualities in the finished product. Formulated to be non-fading, non- chalking, ultraviolet
stabilized and scratch resistant. Capable of being applied in required thicknesses. Matte,
non-glare, textured finish and color by addition of specially formulated aggregates selected
by Engineer from manufacturers standard range.

B. Resin: Fire retardant polyester type brominated reactor blended resin. Up to 30% antimony
trioxide permitted.

C. Glass: Fibers of glass to suit resin system.

D. Fasteners: Corrosion resistant, sized to resist applied loads.

2.3 FINISH

A. Finished surfaces to be smooth, free from all defects.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

A. Embedded or Inserted Hardware: Noncombustible, Type 316 stainless Steel that are
integrated into cast plastic fabrications.

B. Fasteners: For fixing ladders to mounting walls or floors are to post-intalled pre-drilled
expansion-type fasteners fabricated from type 316 stainless steel, select diameter based on
height of ladder and number of holes available for fixation fasteners.

2.5 COMPONENTS

A. GRP Ladders: Fiberglass-composite ladders or railings made of pultruded tubing with

internal reinforcement, where needed, to support a point load of 150 kg at middle of rung.
Rungs are to be coated with abrassive material for slip resistance. Safety cages are also
made from fiberglass-composite materials. Ladders shall comply with OSHA PP 1910.27
and installed to supplier's specifications. Products shall be designed with a 3 to 1 safety
factor.

1. Ultimate Tensile Strength: 206 MPa.

2. Ultimate Compressive Strength: 206 MPa.
3. Construction: Fiberglass content minimum 60 % glass content
by weight.
