RESEARCH METHODS SURVIVAL GUIDE

Welcome to Topic 1 of our Research Methods Jungle adventure! In this topic we


are gathering our tactical gear to prepare ourselves for the dangers ahead. There
are 3 tactical equipment that you must ensure to pick up from the topic 1 lesson
in order to level up. You will be meeting your team mates at our next rally point
and you must ensure to be ready with your gear. This guide will help you to
survive this topic and make it to our next rally point. Download, print or save &
tick off the tasks as you go along.

TOPIC OVERVIEW:

In this topic we will be looking at the basics of research. In order to successfully


complete this topic, you must be able to:

● Define Research
● Describe the steps of the Scientific Method
● Describe the characteristics of good Research
● Know the types of Research
● Know the types of logic
● Know the philosophies of research

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE:

1. THE RESEARCH DESIGN VIDEOS:

You will start working on your video AFTER you are placed into groups. Each
group is assigned a research design topic to create a video on; the video
assignments are on Moodle. This video will become a peer teaching tool, meaning
that you will be teaching the rest of the class about this specific research design.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE RESEARCH DESIGN VIDEO:

☐ Check out the sample video to see what is expected of you

And if you are looking for material to procrastinate productively with or if you
have time on your hands, you can watch a movie showcasing the ethnography
research design (You don’t have to do this one but it’s a fun movie to watch ☺)
