A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

scientific ways of acquiring knowledge and solving problem

The learners should be able to
perform in guided investigation involving community based
B. Performance Standards problem using locally available materials

Within the specified period, learners shall be able to:

1. identify the components that should be included in
an investigation;
C. Learning
Competencies/Objectives 2.describe what a fair test in science means ,
Write the LC code for each 3.recognize that a scientific investigation should show
fair testing.

I. Content The Scientific Investigations -the Importance of Fair Testing

● The learners will recall what are the desirable quantities of a
scintist.

ENGAGE ( 5 minutes )
The learners will do the activity - UNSCRAMBLE THE WORD. They will guess the
write word in a given picture with UNSCRAMBLE WORD.
B. Establishing a purpose * classifying, observing, communicating, Interpreting,measuring.

EXPLORE ( 15 minutes)
D. Discussing new
concepts and practicing ● The learners will read about “Components of a Scientific Investigation”
new skills #1 12 to page 14 of their SLM ( Quarter 1 module 1).

● The learner will do the activity 1 We Write what was Ask

● They will be given general instructions that includes house rules/guidelines proper conduct
and time management as the activiy goes on to ensure collaborative participation.
E. Discussing new ● They will be divided into 4 groups ( same group as in the previews activity)
concepts and practicing ● The groups will collect ideas from each member to answer the given question.
new skills #2 Q1. Name one of important components/ parts of a scientific investigation
Q2. What are some of the things you can do to make sure your experiment is a fair test.

Explain ( 10 minutes) Boardwork

● Every Learner will match the Heading with their role /purpose.
Heading Role/Purpose

Elaborate ( 20 minutes)
● The learners will elaborate by giving them Situation Fair testing;
Gabriel blew up some balloons with air and tied them along a fence in his backyard to
see what happened to them in sunlight. Some balloons were in the shade of the tree. Gabriel
wondered why some balloon started to get bigger- some even got big that they popped whent
G. Finding practical they got very hot ' I think the balloons are getting bigger when the temperature is getting
applications of concepts higher.
and skills in daily living He said 'I wonder what experiment i could do to find out the answer and make sure it's fair?''
Q1What should Gabriel use to measure the air temperature?
Q2. how should he work out the size of the balloons accurately?
Q3. What are some of the experiment so that it's a fair test?

The following key concepts should be given emphasis during discussions

● Observing is a basic science process in which you made use of your senses to gather
information about the things and events around you.
● Inferring is a logical interpretation of your observation based on experience or prior
knowledge..
● Predicting is making an ''intelligent guess'' about the outcome of an experiment or an
event.it is based on observable facts, trends, and patterns.
●Classifying is looking for common attributes that can help explain how things are related.
H. Making ● Measuring is determining the size of an object or amount of a material with the use of
generalizations and measuring instrument.
abstraction about the ● Inferring is a logical interpretation of your observation based on experience or prior
lesson knowledge.
● Analyzing is breaking down your observations into their components and seing the
relationship among them.
●Communicating is is sharing the results of your experiment or research to others.

Evaluate ( 5 minutes)
The learners will answer the following evaluation by choosing the letter of the correct
answer.
1.What science process skill is important as we identify problems to be investigated?
a. Predicting b. Observing c. Classifying d. Inferring
2. What process skill is applicable in grouping plants as monocot and dicot?
a. Classifying b. Inferring c. Communicating d. Observing
3.Which science process skill is needed in finding the speed of a car?
a. Inferring b. Classifying c. Measuring d. Observing
4. What do you call the factor in an experiment that must be remained constant or
unchanged? a. Controlled variable b. Independent Variable c. Dependent Variable d.
I. Evaluating learning Modifying Variable
5. Which of the following is an example of inferring? a. The fish will swim when you put it in
the water. b. The plant was dead because it was placed in a dark place. c. The sun makes the
flower bloom. d. The fertilizer makes plants grow taller.
