About Johanniter International Assistance:
Johanniter International Assistance (www.johanniter-int.org) is
a department in Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe, a German non-
governmental organisation. It is the operational unit for
humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency
relief, implementing and supporting mostly health projects
worldwide. The Federal Headquarters are based in Berlin,
Germany.

Johanniter International Assistance started its operations in


Afghanistan in October 2002 with the aim to improve the
health conditions of Afghan communities through providing
medical care and supporting health facilities. Johanniter
International Assistance is implementing its projects through
national partner organisations in Badghis, Kabul, Khost and
Kunduz provinces

 
Job Description:
 Line management of Shelter project staff in Khost, and
 Technical oversight and shared operational management of shelter project staff in Khost.
 Coordinate and manage shelter reconstruction, repair/rehabilitation project
implementation (activities including assessments, monitoring and evaluation, budget, and
project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies, and donor requirements
 Implement technical direction including best practices for shelter construction, where
possible incorporating DRR components and ensuring high technical quality of projects
across operational areas/provinces
 Ensure that people living with a disability are consulting when planning the shelter
rehabilitation.
 Reports: Provide regular, timely and quality progress reports to the Senior Programme
Manager.
 Ensure that projects target project participants most vulnerable and in need of protection,
explore and asses new and better ways to assist within the project framework / design
 Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders, in
consultation with line manager

Job Requirements:
 At least five years in a development and/or humanitarian technical Shelter programming,
DRR, environment, including three years’ experience in a senior level project management
position.
 Knowledge in protection mainstreaming, community outreach/engagement, community
capacity building, and/or community-development oriented programming.
 Demonstrated experience and understanding of Project Cycle Management and team
leadership.
 Fluency in English and Pashtu is essential, both written and verbal as well as understanding
of Dari though not mandatory.
 Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering studies / master’s degree is preferred
 Knowledge of the context in South-eastern Afghanistan, Khost Province in particular.
 Experience in needs assessment, project monitoring and evaluation, and programme
development.
 Experience of geographical access negotiation and representation, including with local
authorities, I/NGOs, and communities.
 Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high and diverse
workload.
