OM SouthChinaMorningPost | $6 hitps://scmp.com/article/61003 1/oceamproves-be-inspi fon-winning-artists ‘The ocean proves to be an inspiration for winning artists Miranda Yeung FOLLOW ‘Two young Hong Kong artists are celebrating their success in an international art competition, Inspired by a love of marine life, the two created their paintings for the ‘Celebrate the Sea Marine Festival’, which was held in Manila last week, Charlotte Ho Sie-wing, 13, received the 2007 Ambassador for Sharks Award from the President of the Philippines Gloria Arroyo. Her artwork was judged the best of over 4,000 entries, Entitled 'Say No to Shark's Fin’, the competition was organised by Australia-based OceanNEnvironment as part of the festival "think my concept of missing a piece of shark's fin won the hearts of the judges. I spent two months researching sharks and drawing," says Charlotte, a Form Three student from Diocesan Girls' School Elaine Au Chun-ning, 15, won the 2007 Merit of Excellence Award in the on-site drawing contest, which was attended by the top 50 finalists. She and Charlotte study painting at the Simply Art Creative Painting Studio. Elaine's winning work depicts a smiling face formed by dolphins, sharks, starfish and other sea creatures.
