programme. I am sure you will not be disappointed. The Department of Business
Administration is robust with innumerable activities throughout the year. Inspite of the
present pandemic situation, the department ensured that the students do not waste time
and remain engaged with study/classes and activities including internships and webinars.
There was no slackness in taking classes and evaluation. The whole focus was on adding value
to the time spent at Tezpur University and maintaining mental and physical health of our
students. This was possible due to the efforts exerted by the faculty and students’ willingness
to comply. The students of the Department are trained not only by a dedicated team of faculty
but also people/experts drawn from industry. The syllabus is one of the best in the country
that is designed in consultation with the industry and of course following guidelines of AICTE.

I take this opportunity to thank the recruiters for the support they have been providing us in the form of
recruiting our students and providing honest and practical feedback. I welcome you and other new
recruiters to our wonderful campus for this session.
The pandemic has not been kind to any of us. Even then life has to go on. At our end we have been
trying our level best to make our students worthy of your choice. Our teachers are working very hard to
impart necessary inputs to the students in the form of online classes, recorded classes etc.
As an introduction of TUMBA, we started our MBA programme in 1995 and since 1996 our MBA
graduates have been recruited by reputed organizations. The tourism programme was started in 2002
with a one year PGDTM programme, which was later upgraded to a two year MTTM programme in
2016. Pass out candidates from PGDTM/MTTM programme have also been contributing to the tourism
sector in the form of either trained manpower or entrepreneur.
The biggest strength of the Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University is its faculty. We
have fourteen permanent faculty members, many of them having industry experience. Some of our
faculty members have international teaching experience. Over and above the fourteen permanent
faculty members, we also engage guest faculty and adjunct faculty to give our students industry and
international exposure. At present we have one adjunct faculty from the Netherlands and another from
the USA.
Our syllabus is revised at a regular interval. Senior alumni and industry experts are consulted during
revision of syllabus so that new concepts can be incorporated.
Industry visits including foreign industry is a regular activity of both
the MBA and MTTM programmes. Apart from industry visit locally,
MBA students are sent for foreign excursion to visit industries abroad.
For the MTTM programme, students are sent to foreign destinations
to get exposure of the tourism activities of other foreign countries.

Tezpur University came into existence on 21st

January 1994 by an Act of Parliament of India,
The Tezpur University Act, 1993 (Act No. 45). It
is a unitary and residential Central University.
The University is located at Napaam, about 15
km east of Tezpur town in Sonitpur District of
Assam. The University has a campus area of
about 262 acres. The sprawling and verdant
beauty of the campus, the striking and well
maintained academic buildings, and the
engaging staff and student activities make the
campus very vibrant. The academic programs
offered in the University have a distinct focus
on Science, Technology, Humanities and Social
Sciences, reflecting the objective of the
University.
Currently, the University offers 63 carefully
chosen academic programs through 19
departments under the Schools of Engineering,
Humanities & Social Sciences, Management,
and Sciences. The University also offers 11
programs under its open and distance mode.
With over 3300 students, 240 faculty members,
and 270 administrative and technical
personnel, the University today is a hub of
quality activities in higher education and
research.
The University has already developed several Tezpur University has emerged as one of the
state-of-the-art laboratories, computing most sought after Universities in the North
facilities, internet connectivity, a dedicated East. The University has a pan India look with
power supply system, renewable energy students from all states enrolling here and the

To be in the forefront of the growing tourism
trends in the entire region of North-east India, we
have established a benchmark among the peers
through education and research platforms.
The MTTM programme is composed of both
practical and theory practices to develop a certain
level of skills and knowledge required to excel in
tourism sector.
This is to generate an adaptable workforce to
sustain in the field of tourism, finance, and service
and hospitality management. The entire course
offers various papers on relevant topics of the
industry starting with the fundamentals of
tourism, soft-skills, accounts and finance,
hospitality management and human resource
management.
Students are provided with professional training
in the hospitality sector by the experts from IHM,
Shillong and it is made sure that by the end of the
2 year journey, the student are ready to face any
sort of circumstances. The students are also
introduced to foreign languages through

during each semester.
The methodology of the programme is based on
theoretical practices and practical exposure
through group projects, presentations and field
trips to different tourist generating regions,
where students get the opportunity to evaluate
live scenario.
The students are also required to take a
compulsory two months summer internship and,
a month winter internship in some of the most
reputed tourism based organizations such as
Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad; Tourism and Civil
Aviation Department, Govt. of Sikkim; Kerala
Tourism Development Corporation.
The students are also encouraged to take up
extra-curricular and social activities related with
conversation and maintenance of tourism
resources of the region.
The programme aims to generate next pioneers
who will help to take the tourism
industry into a new dawn..

As part of the student exchange program of the
Department of Business Administration, the
third batch of students carried out their
exchange studies of the 2nd semester at Avans
University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands.
This year three students were selected among
the first-year students, namely Anirban
Bardhan, Divya Sharma, and Shreyasee Deb.
They studied the course Strategic Business
Decisions in a batch of 60 international
students from across the globe, including
students from France, Finland, Germany,
Turkey, Brazil, Italy, Thailand, Hungary, China,
South Korea, and Netherlands. The exchange
period provided them with a diverse
environment to carry out their work as well as
learn from all the different cultures which
helped them foster a sense of independence
and adaptability with any environment they
were presented with.
STUDENT EXCHANGE
PROGRAMME
This experience helped them gain valuable
knowledge and boosted their personalities as
well. The exchange program also provided
them the scope to carry out their summer
internship program in the Netherlands, which
helped them gain exposure to the
international work culture thereby gaining
both practical and professional skills, as they
assisted them in real-time projects for the
companies. This third batch of students helped
in proving that the exchange program was a
success, which further elevates the status of
the university as such programs are unique
facilities provided by the Department of
Business Administration of Tezpur University.
We hope to continue such programs in the
coming years too, where the exchange of ideas
and students between the two universities
proves to be a routine affair.

In the memory of Late Prof. Madhab Chandra Bora every year 16th
November is observed as The Remembrance Day by the School of
Management Sciences, Tezpur University. Dr. Madhab Chandra Bora
was the first Dean of School of Management Sciences. The
department believes that the living owe it to those who no longer
can tell their stories. Eminent personalities from this region are
invited to deliver Madhab Chandra Bora oration.

WORLD TOURISM DAY

Every year the Department of Business Administration celebrates the

World Tourism Day on 27th September, the date commemorated by
United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the
purpose to foster awareness and importance of tourism and its
social, cultural, political and economic value.

In today’s fast paced world, education is

changing dimensions like never before.
Theory and practice go hand in hand and
hence to sustain in this ever-changing
dynamic environment, it becomes
extremely critical to undergo a three-
dimensional learning process. Hence the
Department of Business Administration,
Tezpur University in order to ensure that
its students can cope up with the rapid
pace of this dynamic work environment
has taken up various workshops and
seminars. “Knowledge can lead you to
places”- This quote goes a long way in
proving how it is as important to shape
one’s personality as it is to shape one’s
mind. Hence, all the students of Business
Administration, Tezpur University
underwent a three-day long Personality
Enhancement Program of Dale Carnegie
under the watchful guidance of Iti Sinha
and Yasmin Irani. It turned out very well
since all of them felt extremely confident
and there was an immediate upliftment
in the personalities of the students.

Today’s world demands people to learn

Excel and not just ordinary Excel but
Advanced Excel that can solve a gazillion
calculations in one go; solve the most
complex of problems with just a Pivot
Table. Ravi Kamana, a Microsoft Certified
Solutions Associate & Microsoft Excel
Specialist trained the students of the
department in a five day workshop where
they learnt the ability to create Pivot
Tables, solve corporate problems at one
go, and everything that is needed to
sustain in a corporate entity. While it’s
important to think out of the box, it
becomes extremely important to design
one’s thoughts and give direction to it. The
students of Business Administration,
Tezpur University too in order to build the
aptitude to think in a way that solves
problems, underwent a two-day workshop
on Design Thinking. It was conducted by
Tinker Labs. The objective of the workshop
was to promote the mind in blending
human centricity of design with the power
of technology and business strategy in
order to solve complex problems.
The students have also been extensively
trained in order to be effective in
Accounting which is a very critical
component of business. Hence, the
students have undergone Tally Training
for a semester by Tally Academy on
Tally.ERP 9 and are certified Tally Academy
Accountants.

Tezpur is connected with the capital Guwahati through

NH 27 and NH 27-A via Nagaon and through NH 15 via
