Grounded Theory: Studying Its Use by Nurses

Summary

The study aims to shed light on the perspectives of those responsible for training and assessing recent
graduates, as well as the transitional experiences of recent graduates themselves. Grounded theory's
meaning-making power is why it's so useful in nursing (Lewis-Pierre, Kovacich, & Amankwaa, 2017). Just
10% of new nurses enter the freelance sector within six months of graduation, and few are willing to
teach independent assessment or nursing skills. Surging need for intensive care unit staff: Intensive care
workers need to provide patients with competent and compassionate care, but there is little research on
the willingness of new graduates to work in intensive care units. Patients with life-threatening
conditions and multiple diseases. The ICU has high expectations for the speed at which new nurses will
make the transition from nurses to nurses with disabilities. The study's overarching goal is to theorize
how best to support newly licensed RNs in their transition to work in the intensive care unit (ICU) from
the perspectives of managers, clinical trainers, mentors, and newly licensed RNs themselves.
Cooperative theory building aids in the development of research hypotheses (Lewis-Pierre et al., 2017).
Facilitating the transition from intensive care students to nursing education can be aided by learning
from the experiences of nurses and recent graduates. It's possible that different participant groups, such
as newly graduated nurses entering the intensive care unit, will have different perspectives on how best
to train new nurses for this setting (Lewis-Pierre et al., 2017).

Challenges

This calls for a receptive mindset to allow the issue to emerge organically, rather than being imposed by
those studying social phenomena.

Limitations

The theory can only be applied to materials where observations and reports are straightforward. As a
result, the study was restricted to situations when it was simple to collect first-hand data.
