QUESTION 1

John was operating in a world that was diametrically opposed to the aspirations he had for his life. He
took great care in his beauty, yet the connections he had with women were fleeting at best. Because of
this, he built up a significant charge that he was unable to function well without.

According to Lacan, want has nothing to do with material or sexual desire; rather, it is the locked social
structures that dominate in one's existence. This idea runs counter to the popular notion that desire is
rooted in sexuality. Because of this, John's idea of the perfect existence consisted of improved outward
appearances but no meaningful interpersonal connections. This is due to the fact that he takes a lot of
interest in his appearance and has spent a significant amount of money on his cars and residences. In
addition to this, he never had long-term partnerships with women, and the energy he gained from his
interactions with them served as a driving force that he could not live without (Newman, 2004).

He built his social life by leading a proud life and simply having fun with women by flattering them with
gifts and compliments and further by engaging in brief relationships with them. He did this so that he
could develop his social life.

QUESTION 2

Respect. Melanie is in violation of the ethical principle of respect since she does not respect the privacy
of others when she does not inform them that she is filming the session that they are participating in
even though some of them have their webcams turned on and she is recording it. Respect and discretion
are two qualities that must be upheld at all times when adhering to this idea (Oates, Carpenter, Fisher,
Goodson, Hannah, Kwiatowski, & Wainwright, 2021).

Responsibility. Melanie is able to listen in on the conversation that the group is having thanks to the
person who is in charge of leading the topic, thus that person cannot be held responsible. The
application of this principle calls for individuals to acknowledge the appropriate level of responsibility for
the aspects of their lives that are within their control (Oates, et al., 2021).

Integrity. Melanie is not being truthful with the other members about her conduct, as she is filming the
session without either their approval or knowledge, hence she is in violation of this ethical guideline. In
addition to this, she does not adhere to the constraints placed on her professionally or personally. In
order to comply with this guideline, a person must always act in an honest manner and be truthful
regarding their actions (Oates, et al., 2021).
