i. Group Profile
Established in Karachi in 1978, The City School is one of the largest private schooling networks across the
globe. The City School is an exemplar in the field of educational development, effectively meeting the
demands for quality education whilst having a strong global presence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),
Malaysia, Philippines, Oman and Saudi Arabia. The City School Group has a network of more than 500
schools with over 150,000 students, carrying a legacy of over 40 years in educational development.

In 2012, The City School launched The Smart School, the first ever franchise based model adopted by the
group to make education accessible for everyone. In less than a decade, The Smart School expanded
significantly with a network of more than 360 campuses across Pakistan catering to over 80,000
students.

The power of education to transform lives, attitudes and prospects is the bedrock of The City School
Group. By enabling and empowering students to respond positively to both opportunities and
challenges, we want to take our students further along the educational path and make education more
accessible to them. The Smart College has been envisioned to provide accessible and high quality
secondary education to the students across Pakistan.

We firmly believe that with the emphasis on academic and social achievement, coupled with sound
traditional values, we will help them become accomplished and responsible citizens of Pakistan.

The latest initiative of The City School Group, The Smart College is a franchise-based network of colleges
that serves as a link between secondary and higher education where a large number of students are
deprived of quality secondary education in Pakistan. The Smart College provides an opportunity to the
students to progress in specialised fields of education after their matriculation, where they acquire a
certification/degree to pursue their chosen career path.

The Smart College intends to promote life-long learning among students through co-curricular activities.
Along with a standardised curriculum, The Smart College equips students with life skills through
activities such as; tutorials, seminars and symposiums. Additionally, extra-curricular activities like
debates, reading clubs, field trips, sports competitions and other hands-on initiatives inculcate creative
and critical thinking capabilities among students.

The Smart College also adheres to a blended learning model within the curriculum. This model is derived
from a hybrid model of education involving high tech amenities and ICT integrated resources. The Smart
web portal allows students to have access to unique features such as; e-learning, online assessments
and application. Keeping pace with the modern world, the smart web portal, a state-of-the-art student
management system maintains records for each student providing updated information to parents
regarding the students’ performance, attendance and results.

The Smart College has a robust structure where standardised education is the core of its operations. The
Academics Departments ensures that the application of each theoretical aspect is practically applied for
deep-rooted conceptual understanding.

The Smart student portal facilitates parents to have access to their child’s attendance and performance
in college, enabling them to view their reports any time. This gives parents the transparency they
require to ensure they are equally involved in their child’s learning journey.

ii. Three Ways Conference (Parents, Teachers and Students)

The Smart College organises four annual Three-ways Conference to involve parents in children’s
academic and social life. These conferences are focused on ensuring that a continuous relationship is
established between the students, parents and the school management/teachers. This helps both
students and teachers to meet expectations, identified for each student’s learning journey.

iii. Celebrating the Success (Awards and rewards Mechanism)

The awards and rewards mechanism is devised to ensure students receive their due appreciation so
that they may be motivated in their educational journey. These awards are given out annually
appreciating the efforts of both the teachers and the students.

iv. Life beyond Academics – Smart Societies and Clubs


Along with academics, The Smart College encourages autonomy, creative thinking and practical life
experiences in order to stimulate students’ minds to the fullest. It offers learning by empowering
through multiple clubs and societies.

i. Sports Club

Sports Club organises various sports activities round the year, including volley ball, badminton, table
tennis, cricket, football, tennis, snooker etc., along with fun sports like arm wrestling, slow biking, fun
races and tug of war.
ii. Quiz Club

The Smart College organises quiz competitions to sharpen the knowledge of the students held in all
campuses at least once a month.

iii. Bag Packers Club

The Bag Packers Club brings together like-minded students and faculty members of The Smart Colleges
to explore various cultures and picturesque terrains and geographical areas of Pakistan. This is a perfect
opportunity for students and teachers to bond with one another and experience situations where they
can practically apply what they have learnt in the college.

iv. Techies Club

To bring out the best in tech-savvy students, Techies Club discusses the latest trends in technology,
gizmos, and software besides inviting technology inputs from various fields. The students are also
encouraged to develop in-house technologies and software which they later present at events to be
recognised for their contribution to the field.

v. Bulls and Bears Club

The Bulls and Bears Club is for the students interested in Stock Exchange. The club keeps a track of
various industries and releases reports and predictions. It organises mock stock exchange sessions and
simulates commodity trading through student committees.

vi. Cultural Club

This is one of the most active clubs of The Smart College that organises many cultural events like
fresher’s party and galas etc. This allows senior and junior students to come together and organise
exciting events for all to enjoy.

vii. Debating Club

Debating Club promotes dialogue culture among The Smart College students. It hunts the talented
students interested to cover politics, economics, entertainment, science and technology in the debates.
This activity helps students develop confidence, public speaking skills and allows them to develop critical
thinking and analyses that helps them through all spheres of life.

viii. Literary Society


This society promotes the love of literature among students by organising exciting literary events and
programmes. This allows students to be introduced to classical literature, poetry, politics and many
other specialised subjects enhancing their vocabulary and giving them the ability to express themselves.

ix. TEDx Society

TEDx Club is devoted to spreading ideas worth spreading at The Smart College. Students from various
backgrounds come together to share their stories, experiences, and areas of interest. The TEDx features
stimulating talks on a range of topics, including but not limited to science, politics, business, technology,
entertainment, design, art and more.

x. Entrepreneurial Club

Entrepreneurial society equips the students to develop skills that will help them learn the basics of what
is required to set up a business. It teaches them about operational planning, financial planning and the
business specifications.

xi. Exploring the World – Tours and Recreations

The Smart College organises domestic and international trips for the students to give them exposure of
the outside world. The city tour adds to their understanding of the Pakistani society, culture and
heritage while trekking and survival trip to the hills enables the students to have basic survival skills
training. Study and excursion trips to international destinations, including historical museums, football
federation and NASA are also arranged.

Moreover, to prepare students for practical life, they are frequently taken to business and industrial
tours. Students visit manufacturing units and business centres such as stock exchange, commodity
exchanges, harbour area, shopping malls, advertising agencies and other commercial hubs of the
country.

Smart Colleges have impressive and well-maintained campuses with start-of-the-art facilities needed to
create a conducive environment for purposeful learning.

i. Library

To support students in their learning, the Smart College has a well-stocked library facility. The
library of the institute uses Open Source Library Management Software – KOHA which also has
Web Based Online Public Access Catalogue (Web OPAC). The library has a membership of N-
List for e-journals.

ii. Computer Labs

Computer Labs at The Smart College are well-equipped with desktops, inter-connected in a Local Area
Network with a central server system. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled while unique login IDs have been
issued to students and the faculty for access. It has a full-time system administrator. Students make
effective use of ICT lab for digital learning and improve their technical skills.

iii. Science Lab

The fully-equipped science lab provides an opportunity to students to bring theory into practice.
Students are able to better understand different scientific theories and concepts by performing various
experiments.

iv. Smart Boards

Smart boards are installed in the college to not only enhance the way teachers teach but also the way
students learn. It provides students with an enriched learning experience by projecting visual elements.
It also makes differentiated learning much easier because teachers are able to accommodate different
learning styles.

i. Intermediate Programmes

FSc (Pre-Engineering)

The Faculty of Science (Pre-Engineering) programme at The Smart College is a comprehensive course
involving both practical and theoretical aspects of engineering. The programme trains students to opt
engineering as a professional course of study.

FSc (Pre-Medical)
Duration: 2 Years

The Faculty of Science (Pre-Medical) programme provides a sound foundation to students aiming to
pursue a career in or related to medicine.

The Intermediate of Commerce (I.Com) programme provides a foundation to students wanting to
pursue a career in commerce or related to businesses.

ICS

The Intermediate of Computer Science (ICS) programme provides general education in Computer
Science and Software Development.

FA
Duration: 2 Years

The Faculty of Arts programme provides a foundation in general education to students and is mainly
focused on humanities subjects.
The college offers the following combination of subjects in FA:

iii. Career Counselling


A series of career counselling sessions are organised at The Smart College for students so they can
identify their areas of interest and gain better insight about their career prospects.

iv. College Rules and Regulations

Students are expected to observe strict discipline in the college.

Any violation thereof will entail severe punishment:


 All students must arrive for classes on time. Any student who arrives more than 10
minutes late, without any valid reason, will be marked absent.
 Any student found tampering with the attendance record in an attempt to sign in for
another student will be expelled from the college immediately.
 A valid medical certificate is required as proof of absence due to illness.
 Students are responsible for informing the college management of any changes in the
address and other contacts.
 The college management reserves the right to change the course, timetable and/or
teacher, if deemed necessary.
 Smoking and possession of cigarettes in the college premises is strictly prohibited.
Disciplinary action will be taken and can even lead to expulsion from the college.
 It is mandatory for each student to possess a Student Card which should be displayed
prominently. Failure to do so will render a student liable to disciplinary action.
 If the card is lost, students are advised to get a new one issued immediately (An
additional fee will be charged on the issuance of a new card). The card must be returned
when the student leaves the college.
v. Admission Process

The Smart College grants admission granted purely on merit and academic grounds, irrespective of cast,
creed, religion or community. Every candidate must be registered with the college before taking the
admission test. The registration fee is Rs. 1,000 (non-refundable). Registration does not, however,
guarantee admission with The Smart College. If offered admission, the parent/guardian is required to
bring the candidate to the college for an interview-cum-written test, on the basis of which admission is
granted. At the time of admission, the candidate must produce the proof of matriculation exam by
presenting a certificate, marks sheet or any other evidence that endorses his/her appearance in the
matriculation examination, together with a school-leaving certificate from his/her last attended
institution endorsing that he/she has passed the exam.
